·Hello everyone,
I have been working on a beautiful Hamilton Chrono-Matic 11002-3 and have put a substantial amount of work into her. Replaced pushers (screws had to be resized, and new screw slots filed), new crystal, new back gasket, serviced movement and chronograph (had to true large driving wheel and tighten cannon pinion), couple hands needed repainting and lume stabilized…phew. The movement runs fantastic, the chronograph runs great. Had the thing all together and running but decided to tear down again the tighten the cannon pinion more (cannon pinion resides on the second wheel on this movement) as well a repaint the chronograph second hand and one of the small chronograph recorder hands. All was looking great.
And today the final step, I attempted to re-waterproof the crown as the previous watchmaker seemed to squirt some gasket maker gunk under the steel retaining plate of the crown. Spent a lot of time removing the old steel ring and removing all the old o-ring gunk. Then attempted to replace with a new o ring as well as a new steel retainer..and they didn’t go so well. I coned the retaining ring with a staking set so I could then flatten it back out and it would spread into the groove of the crown and voila, we’d have another sucessful vintage crown waterproof. But no, the ring refused to flatten and I got it stuck and then was eventually able to drive it home but managed to ding up the thread hole and yeah it’s no good..very sad day.
So I am currently looking for a genuine, vintage Hamilton signed/stamped waterproof crown for a Hamilton Chrono-Matic Ref. 11002-3 from 1969.
Hamilton/Buren Caliber 11 movement/case, the specific requirements are:
If you have a spare in your parts bin or have a lead on a specialist who might have one, please send me a PM with details and your asking price. Shipping would be to California, USA.
Thank you
