    HI Guys,

Looking to buy my first Speedmaster Pro - I have set a budget around 3000-3500 USD.
I might go for an older vintage model later on - but for my first Speedy this is the range I am looking at.

I am a bit undecided between going for a watch with a bit of history or a newer watch.
In the 3000-3500 USD range it looks like I can get watches in nice condition ranging from the early 80's up to a more or less new watch (2-3 years old)

    I am currently looking at either a 1994 (861 movement I believe?) or a 2005 with 1861?
Which would be the most desirable to own in your opinion?

The watches looks to be in good condition and very similar in appearance.

    Thanks in advance!

    Christian

Generally tritium lumed pre 1999 watches are considered better. You can see on the bottom of the dial. “T Swiss Made T” denotes tritium. Just Swiss made is luminova. Tritium ages to a nice warm patina.

There is not really any difference between the 861 and 1861.

For the front crystal you can choose between sapphire which is more scratch resistant or hesalite a plastic which most people think looks better on watches in your time period.

Take your time and learn your options.
