This 6309 will be 40 years young this fall, bought it when I was 17! Bought a new Rolex GMT (black) last week and I'm wearing this today.

A most excellent 6309, sir! 馃憤

Not as vintage as your 6309 [mine will be 32 years young this December]...I bought it new in 1987 when I was 23 while in U.S. Navy pilot training...and I continue to fly with it today. 馃憤

I gave my Seiko to my oldest son.

I get not wanting to clutter the forum, unless of course a watch is really worthy of its own section and/or sub form. I'm thinking a Speedmaster might be worthy of its own section. And I think a sub form for gold speedmasters might make sense as well.

You cropped the Invicta from your left wrist, didn't you?

yes 馃榾 power reserve and such a beautiful mother of pearl moonphase

5R77 spring drive movement (the movement before the current 9R series)

Other cool thing - the hands are half polished and half brushed. i can imagine some Japanese watchmaker spending hours trying to ensuring that the each side is perfect...

I'm still hoping one day I'll have a Grand Seiko with 36,000 movement but no power reserve. For now I have four and would say the 6309-7040s get most wrist time out of all my watches. I had one watch for ages, it had (good quality) aftermarket insert, dial and hands. A couple of years ago I took a punt on two more which weren't photographed well but looked fantastic when they arrived (along with a large pile of new Seiko spare parts, a bracelet and so on the seller hadn't mentioned). I sent them all off to O.N. Atelier in the UK, who serviced all three watches and sent the replacement bezel, hands and dial to James Hyman who relumed them with working aged lume. Now I have two perfect and completely original watches plus one with nice new/old lume and sapphire crystal. All three are pressure tested and working perfectly, although the bitsa watch is the only one that goes near water:

One of the original ones:

And this is my completely original 6105-8110:

Forgot these two. The Bullhead is completely original (bracelet too) and came very very cheap as a donor watch after I'd bought a non-working Filipino special on eBay when I started out collecting. As it turned out the donor was too nice so I bought another which was also too nice so I gave away the pile of crap, had both donor watches serviced and kept the blue/black one.

The UFO came early on too and has replacement bezel and dial because I wanted it to look a bit cleaner. The originals are going back on next time I have it serviced. They look miles better, what was I thinking?

Is this the best place to ask whether folks have heard / put much truck in the rumour that the Seiko marine master 300m is going to be discontinued? Think there was something on Hodinkee about it.
Just wondering if the 300 would be a good place to start looking for an older specimen if so.

There's a thread on TZ-UK about this. I've had two and both times thought the watch was lovely, the bracelet garbage and the crown stuck into my hand. The bracelet clasp on the second one was so badly finished it cut into my wrist into three places, actually drawing blood. I tried it with a different clasp but could never get the adjustment right. I don't have an issue with any of my other Seikos or large heavy watches like the Big Blue, 1000M or my Explorer 2 (which has a good go at stabbing my hand). It's a shame because I really like the watch.

@Foxy100 Jez, that sounds rough, and also a little surprising for them?
I've got a 'big' watch purchase later in the year, so find myself looking around for something else to research for the next purchase, am tossing up between a Hummer of some sort of a Seiko diver, the latter is becoming more attractive, thanks for the info.

What a great initiative, the Seiko sticky!

I must admit. When I started collecting watches a few decades ago, I never gave Seiko a second look. I was so enthralled by Swiss watches that looking into Seiko's rich history didn't occur to me.

My attraction to the brand was sparked by the high level of enthusiasm their owners exhibit, the history, the rugged good looks of some of their sports models and the incredible "bang for the buck". I can't understate the pleasure my Seiko Trio gives me. Ironically, my "vintage" Seiko is a quartz powered chronograph!

Seiko 7a28...the first analog quartz powered chronograph

I think this is a must have for any chronograph enthusiast. The amazing 15 jewel quartz marvel in a fully analog package. Split seconds, 1/10 seconds...you name it. They look good too!

My new career as a trucker prompted me to ask the question here on the forum. I needed a rugged and fun mechanical that would fill the need for a work timepiece that would also satisfy my enthusiasm for timepieces. This Seiko filled the gap big time at a price that defys all competition. Accurate, highly legible, rugged, and 200m water resistance in a super cool looking diver. My faithful wristwatch companion on my long trips.

When I saw this watch posted here on the OF by another member, It really stopped me in my tracks. It's one thing that it's an attractive watch (at least to me), but could it "talk the talk"? A little bit of research and inquiries led me to pull the trigger. I was astonished by the overall feel, fit and finish, size and overall quality at a price even a trucker can afford. Simply unbeatable at this price point IMO. Very versatile on a strap, the very competent Seiko bracelet, rubber or NATO.

Cheers,
