I’ll join in on the KS party. This is my second King Seiko and I love it. My cousin wanted the other one so badly I had to sell it to him and buy another. If you haven’t played with one in person, make that a New Years resolution.

After reading pretty much every vintage Seiko post here at OF ( thank you all)
I finally pulled the trigger and just acquired from Arbitro in Tokyo my first ever Seiko... the 4502-8010 King Seiko Hi-Beat circa 1970! It’s early, but so far I’m very impressed with this chronometer grade hand wind. I’m fond of retro looking pillow/ C cases .. (you get the vintage watch that looks much bigger than some of the 33-35 mm watches I have) .
Great edges to the polished case and I love the way the low profile crystal emerges from the bezel... all the steel furniture looks fantastic on the slightly warm dial. For only $500; I think it’s a great deal ..

Since I only just got my first ever Seiko ,
The King 4502-8000... can anyone tell me who has both the Grand and King versions of the cal 45x ; if the “finishing” of the GS is much better than the KS.. it seemed like , for similar looking ref’s the Grands were seemingly always more expensive ( when I was looking ) ... what can you share with this novice regarding the 2 Seikos ..

Seiko for a long time has been in spilt into two factories. The Suwa & Daini factories fight for dominance and this is why there is both a King and Grand Seiko. It is kinda like something like GM where Pontiac and Chevrolet fight for market expect with Seiko they were quite independent of each other and were not at different price points. The King Seiko was Daini & the Grand Seiko was Suwa. By the 70s the King Seiko had passed and Grand Seiko faded with the digital rise and was restarted in the 90s. Among the Seiko fans there is a spilt in who prefers what between the two with Daini being the underdog of sorts. I do own a lot more Suwa than Daini. You can always tell Suwa V Daini with Suwa having an odd circle with two little lines jotting out(look at smitty's post last Tuesday with the 6138) and Daini an weird s.

Thank you AveConscienta...I have read a little about Seiko’s in house competition and separate production facilities ( that’s an amazing concept in of itself )... do the watches seem different in build quality; movement finishing or dial/ case work ?
I know this is a bit rhetorical because all watchmakers have difference price points etc... but I think it’s interesting that Seiko had two in house setups back then.
