Did anyone happen to see the following Wallstreet Journal article? They seem to think the uptick in wearing fine mechanical waches is not for telling time, stating we (watch wearers) don’t even bother to set the correct time anymore.

Also discussed Andy Warhol and his Cartier Tank, which he apparently never set the correct time.

Thoughts? I don’t think this is the case.

I don't think anyone at the WSJ really knows anybody like us. I still get a loupe to make sure the minute hand hits the marker when the second hand passes 12 as close to exactly as possible, and I'm no where near as OCD as I used to be.

Taking a statement by Andy Warhol at face value suggests the hacks in question haven't encountered anyone who uses irony either.

I think it's a stretch to refer to the hipster millennials quoted in the article as "men".

I keep picturing Bill Hader, the actor, playing Andy Warhol in Men in Black 3 - so much so that I can't recall how Andy Warhol behaved in real life.

You used to wear the loupe 24/7?

    Psh.

Well every single day my co-workers and friends make a face at me when they see me check my watch for the time even if I'm on my phone.

Can anyone identify the watch Werner Klemperer was wearing in that photograph of him as Colonel Klink?

I would look at my watch and if someone sees that and asks me for the time, i will have to do a double take haha :p
But nah, not setting the time just takes away the romance of the ritual.

Picking out a time piece, winding it up, setting the time and strapping it onto your wrist

Perhaps Warhol was setting up a punchline ... something to do with eternal life

I mentioned awhile back that the fashion watches with no hour markers make the statement "the exact time is of no importance". I think I also mentioned that many females only wear a watch as jewelry and seldom bother to wind or set.

The modern gaudy overly skeletonized watches are as bad, you can barely pick out whatever passes for markers amid all that clutter.

I have to subscribe to read the article. What are the odds of me doing that?

    :p

It's the age of the idiot! Most intelligent couples I know have 1 child, or none. My wife and I only know of 1 couple that have 2 children - and that's because they're twins. We aren't even perpetuating our numbers, yet dumb asses and morons have 3, 4 or more kids. How many generations do you think that pattern can continue before idiots overrun the planet? The collective IQ of the human race is getting lower all the time.

The first few minutes are brilliant and prescient. The rest of the movie less so. Bit of a disappointment after Office Space.

Campbell's soup was and continues to be very good to Andy. Whether he ever ate it I can't say.

    have fun

ps...I believe he too lived in Squirrel Hill for a bit which we all know is very close to the Squirrel Hill tunnel.
