That watch looks in fantastic condition for is age, whats its history ?

Don't know. This is what it looked like when I bought it. The dial has been refinished fairly recently. You can tell this because the printing on the subsecond dial is slightly off-center.

The one good thing about these old American watches is that the company that originally made these dials is still around, has all the old dies and uses the same process as they did in the 1920's.

Take care,

Thanks Gatorcpa.
This is the best thing about this thread, you get to see watches that are not main stream. Such as the watch that Ulackfocus is wearing above !. I must admit I'm unfamiliar with this watch, but its a lovely looking piece. 👍

Thanks Steve. It was made around 1999 and has a Piguet-based caliber from the 95x series inside - the same as the older Audemars Piguet Royal Oak mid-sized watches. The calendar function was added. I figure it's half way to being vintage so maybe I'll keep it. 😉

The only Corum's I've seen around are the Admiral's Cup maximum-bling editions that appear from time to time on the Gold Coast here, and frankly are pretty ordinary compared to most of the other watches in their price bracket. That is actually a very tasteful and elegant piece with a very unique date complication and sub-seconds arrangement.

I like it. Why don't Corum make more of these and less diamonds+yachting flags?

Because Bling + Big = Sales. This is a 35 mm watch, which is only coming back around into style again now.

My favorite! The dial on this is the reason I bought it.

Damn....

I'm guessing that one definitely didn't come from the gold buyers!

Most definitely not! 😜 It had been my grail for years, since seeing the Malte collection in a high end magazine while flying to vacation. The day I went to buy it I had butterflies in my stomach - something I had not felt in a loooooong time.

Today's watch is a 1950 Longines reference 5022 caliber 22AS - their first auto with center sweep seconds:

Its been interesting to see Longines having its brand renovated recently, they've had television ads and some very nice high end pieces in magazines recently. For the last couple of decades they've fallen into that three tier Swatch Group pecking order of Tissot -> Longines -> Omega but now they're really starting to push it as a brand in its own right (like Omega) and away from being just a brand in the stable.

He may have a few watches but the poor guy does seem to suffer from over-starched shirt cuffs, if you look through the pictures you can see how rigid they all are. If the same person does his trousers, he could be walking through town like a cowboy at noon. 😁

LOL, I wonder how many tubes of polywatch he gets through after those shirt cuffs have rubbed against his watches all day !. 😁

Okay, no fair picking on a guy who isn't logged in to defend himself! I'll answer in order:

- Steve, so far it is mainly you & I - but as news of the site gets around I think we'll have plenty of company.

- One watch? Seriously? He's gotta work on that.

- Just because I can iron doesn't mean my watch crystals get scratched!

And he has a big boat !!😁
