Wrong strap tube length!

Had a bit of a problem with my Omega rail master. A local watch dealer fitted an aftermarket strap for me several months ago and I recently decided to swap the strap to a new aftermarket strap, since I bought the tools to do this myself I went ahead and tried.
I soon found out that the strap tube was the exact length as the lug width meaning there was no access to the spring bars. Not knowing what to do I went back to the watch dealer and explained the problem, they didn’t know what to do other than cut the strap, strap tube and spring bar and then replace the components. But they would not do it themselves in fear of damaging the watch!
So with a dremel, some thread, tape and a steady hand I set about doing this myself.
Success! No damage and great relief!

I guess you are saying that they used the wrong type of spring-bar.

The strap had a steel tube where the spring bar was located inside but the steel tube was the same length as the distance between case lugs so no way to access the spring bar so had to cut it.

I have never actually seen a strap with a metal tube like that. It would only make sense for a watch with drilled lugs.

The strap was originally made for a Panerai with the quick release button so no need for accessing a spring bar.

If it was a Panerai QR strap couldn't you just remove it by unlocking/unclipping as you would on a Panerai?

No,The Panerai has a button to press on the lug to release the pin/bar. Omega doesn’t have this.

I think there are a few different styles, this is there quick release system to make changing straps more efficient. But can catch you out if you use it on a different watch. Lol
