Would you bid on this Constellation 18K Yellow Gold? Right pictures at last.

In the same public sale, this Connie is auctioned. It is presented as a 1960 model, but it seems to me rather to be a 2782 from 1954 given the clipped bottom. The dial seems genuine to me (slightly pitted, good alignment of the MOY's etc). What do you think?

The watch in your pictures is a French case Omega Constellation from the 50's. These cases did not have a reference number. Most likely the case is signed PGF which was the maker of the case. These cases tend to have a more rounded lugs/caseback compared to the regular Swiss Omega cases from this period. On the outside of the caseback you can see the French Eagle's head hallmark. Some of these French Constellations were signed "Fab Suisse" on the dial, but not all of them. There are some threads on this topic if you want to find more info.

To me everything looks fine. I am not 100% sure, but I think the crown could be original also. I believe it will have a caliber 354 bumper automatic. Note that the dial appears to have some spots on it (mostly visible in your 1st picture). The bezel seems more rounded than it should be so most likely it was polished at some point.

These are nice watches, but normally they are not as desirable as the regular Swiss Constellations.

Whether I would bid on it would all depend on the price. I purchased one of these several years back in a similar condition and paid around $1500.

The lugs also seem a bit less sharp than they should be, or perhaps that is due to the different case type? Seems polished indeed but that doesn't have to be a problem just decreases the value somewhat.

Agree with almost everything above, and good for you for purchasing similar for $1500, but that ain't happening today.
At auction this would bring at least $2k, and probably ~ $2500.

You are right, what I paid is probably on the low side.

Here's one I used to own. Note the sharper bezel but the lugs are quite rounded. Crown is not original.

Excellent point re: rounding of the lugs. I think some of the older non-Seamaster/non-Constellation Omega chronometers had a similar "over polished" look straight from the factory.

Speaking of French cases. Just bought this ‘63 18k Constellation. Was a bit uncertain as I’d never seen this case back before but after a bit of searching and thanks to this thread I feel reassured that it’s the real deal.

That’s a really beautiful piece and the depth and detail in the observatory on that caseback is more impressive than many Swiss cases, great looking watch
