A great day to work from home! Summer sun is pouring in through the windows and from my work station (kitchen table!) I can watch the sparrows and blue birds making short work of the questionable chocolate brownie my mum gave me a few days ago. I hope they appreciate it more than we did... Also, having a cup of coffee and going for a stroll in the garden in a break is fantastic ...And now it's the waiting game. When will the DHL truck arrive?? I am much more excited at this arrival than I've been for a watch in a long time. It's a result of commenting on a gorgeous and uncommon watch on a forum and stating that the owner was welcome to contact me, should he wish to sell. After deciding to return my PloProf and getting ready to ship that one back, he contacted me and we struck a deal which, I believe, was fair for both parties. Any guesses as to the watch? Hint: the watch is Swiss and the forum was Swedish
Hmmm...well, for most guys it would either be 'SPEEDMASTER!' or 'SEAMASTER!', but judging by your interesting and fine tastes its 'NO IDEA!'
I don't have the money for a Speedmaster, but it could well have been a Seamaster! However, it is from a brand that is far less known than Omega, hence the post being in "other brands forum"
My bad! Still, 'NO IDEA!' is then even more relevant...I have no idea what Swiss watches Swedes are into (except for my Swedish friend who is into Omegas)...
Probably shouldn't have mentioned that it was from Sweden... Funny how the Swedes have a near monopoly on vintage Certinas!
Belive Sweden was the first country the DS line was launched in,but your new watch was bought from Italy this year
Talking about the Devil... Absolutely GORGEOUS Certina DS ref. 5601 113 with an amazing dial that is going slightly brown... Those numerals! Those crosshairs!! The bracelet is an original GF bracelet for Certina DS and has a perfect feel on the wrist. I haven't had the chance to take off the case back yet, so no clue to which production year it is from, but I have a suspicion that it is one of the later ones, as there is another version with smaller lume plots - to me it would make sense if the "revised" version was the one with the bigger plots. I'm guessing 1967-ish I don't say this often, but... This one might be a keeper. Dear God, it is so fantastic.
Hi I personally HATE Certina DS .. "DS" stands for double safety ... super shock resistant and 200 meter water resistance ... horrible case design ! Cheap flimsy bracelet..... Please people look away ...... remove it from your mind and ebait searches ... Here are some sad photos of watches you should stay away from ...( I happen to have these on my cel phone ). Just a public safety message to warn everyone to stay away from this lack luster brand. Good hunting Bill Sohne
Thanks for the heads up. I stupidly thought the picture of the new arrival looked great and was thinking of doing some absent minded searching but you set me straight in the nick of time. Now I just need to satisfy the inexplicable urge to go and buy a Volvo.
I feel just like you, Bill Who would ever want even the basic DS, a 36mm steel cased tool watch that is as elegant as it is sturdy? No wonder they can be picked up for next to nothing... No, give me a Rolex of the same vintage, far superior... I concur with your advice that people should keep away from these, better let us sacrifice ourselves as true horological martyrs, keeping the inferior watches away from the masses.
