This one will probably be a stupid decision, but the shuffling of my collection continues and I can't keep them all. The Wittnauer you see here is a very special watch, but it's so nice that I've never even worn it. While some collectors are fine hoarding pieces in their safe, I've found that I end up just regretting it. As such, this one fell into the "sell" column. Before explaining the piece in more detail, it's worth mentioning that this is a very rare configuration of the 239T, with "Wittnauer only" dial, early handset, and a lume bezel - seldom seen for sale. Add in the full set, and this is an opportunity that motivated collectors should be pretty excited about (in my opinion). One quick picture before moving on to the details: Case / Bezel: 40mm case and caseback are incredibly sharp, and totally unpolished. The angled lugs are in perfect shape, with only random surface scratches. Burgundy bezel, as mentioned above, is the very rare lume version, with the triangular pip in great shape. The bezel itself is in great shape cosmetically. Dial / Handset: Dial is a 100/100 (truly) with perfect creamy patina and no blemishes. Anything you see in the pictures are surface scratches on the crystal. As noted above, the "Wittnauer only" dial is very rare relative to the total production run, and the handset is also consistent with the earliest versions of the 239T. Lume is solid, with no cracks or blemishes. Movement: Early versions of the 239T were powered by the manually wound Landeron caliber 248 (stamped Wittnauer 14Y), a well-regarded cam-driven chronograph movement. I have never worn the watch, but tested it's functionality upon purchasing from the estate. The movement winds and chronograph starts/stops, but does not reset. The movement appears clean and likely just needs a cleaning/oiling/regulation. The watch is sold as-is. Strap / Accessories: The watch will come on the tropic strap that came with it when I purchased it. As you'll see in-person, the strap is literally bent in the shape of the box cushion - indicative of how long it's been resting there. Additionally, this is a very rare full set. Inner / outer boxes, as well as the Wittnauer-Longines guaranty, purchase papers (unsigned), and original $85 price tag. A collector's dream. My price is $3,000 net to me with payment via PayPal (sent "Friends & Family," add 3% if that option is not used) or direct bank wire. I think this is a very fair price, given the quality of the offering. US sale strongly preferred. Face-to-face in Chicago is also welcome for local buyers. Finally, I have plenty of references available as a buyer and seller that I can provide if necessary. I can be reached via PM or at [email protected].
Bump - price drop to $3,000 net (no further price drops - will simply withdraw the watch if it does not meet this threshold).
