This is a 100% authentic Rolex Explorer II 16570 L-series on a 78790A SOLID END LINK Oyster Flip-lock bracelet. It comes with the matching WARRANTY CERTIFICATE and Explorer II booklet (not pictured). You'll notice that it has been modified with a original ROLEX Orange 24 Hand from a Explorer II 216570 hand set that I purchased separately. I think the Orange Hand looks much better on this model, but I didn't care for the 216570 model as its too large for my taste. Of course, the original Red 24 Hand is included PLUS the remaining, unused hands from 216570 Handset. If you wish, the Red hand can easily be re-installed, making this an ordinary ,standard 16570 if desired. The watch is in exceptional working order but I cannot vouch for when it was last serviced. But when my authorized watchmaker recently completed the hand swap, he said that it is in fine working order and a service was not recommended at that time. The T<25 dial is just starting to show some early patina on the markers. Priced at $3850 which includes insured shipping within the continuous USA. Returns are offered if the watch is not as promised; buyer pays insured return shipping. I would be open to a trade towards a nice Submariner 14060M in similar condition.
Tastefully modded! I agree the reissue orange hand just doesn't work well. The Orange on this reference is much better then the stock red.
Still available. I wonder if the Orange hand is off-putting for prospective buyers. I'm considering having my watchmaker switching back the Red hand and re-listing.
I doubt it since your including the original. This watch loooks so much better with the Orange imho. If it was a slightly different period in my collecting history I would have picked this up. I'm just looking for a different Rolex right now.
Personally, I don't like the mod but the fact that you're including the original hand means I wouldn't be put off. Your price isn't unreasonable at all ... but the reason I know that is because I bought one a few months ago for about $300 more than you're asking and I don't need two of them. GLWS - someone will find the ad soon enough who wants one. The Explorer II wears beautifully and is very versatile.
I know the idea of a Franken-watch is not everyone's cup of tea and "customizations" should definitely be reversible, as it is in this case, but I think I'm going to repackage this Exp II with the original hand to make it more appealing to a wider audience. Thanks guys, for the friendly discussion.
