With increased local armed robberies, I’m no longer wearing Rolexes

I mostly agree with the sentiment but there are exceptions….
.
I'm not blaming Pastorbottle for the comment and I understand that it was in jest. That being said, blaming the victim is one of the oldest defense ploys still in use today and unfortunately some jurors take it seriously.

I want one, far more flashy than my Daytona but I suspect you would be far more likely to be mugged for this than a Rolex by lame arsed criminal millennials.

Hmmm. Boat anchors have changed in design since I last threw one overboard. I imagine this this one holds well in deep mud?

The problem with using this as an anchor is that you generally need to retrieve them…….. would you really want to drag this thing back on board, having successfully grown it into the deep where it belongs?
And throwing it into the water will scare off any poor bloody fish that sees it! Thereby ruining the day’s fishing.

If I was going to steal watches Zurich would probably be my prime destination...

Wowzer!

I guess there's a downside to the thread, "How do you ship your gold bullion?" 😁

The article doesn’t go into detail as to the MO used by the thief. But 400 kgs of gold bars is about 1/2 ton. The thief didn’t simply stuff the booty into a brief case and b _ _ _ _ _ r off! A similar event happened in Toronto in the early 1950s. Someone stole about 2 1/2 million (current value in Canadian $) dollars worth of bullion. The gold was never recovered, and the thief never caught!

Was NOT the world’s largest maple syrup theft done in Canada ? 😲

My watch isn't worth your life. ‍ I'm a kind, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding individual. However the moment I'm threatened and you try and take something fom me or my family. Well at that point I value your life less than the lint in my pocket and you will catch a fatal dose of lead poisoning.

A local business man (pharmacy) was robbed by an armed guy, some years ago. That cost him all his narcotics, and the contents of his two tills. Several months later, same guy walks in to rob him again. The pharmacist surrendered all his narcotics and cash. Then followed the guy out of his store, and shot him. He died almost immediately. The pharmacist narrowly escaped a charge of manslaughter, but it cost him a p _ _ s pot. Such are the do gooder, weak kneed laws in Canada!

But to be honest, even being the best shot in the world, when two scooters drive up either side of your car and wield guns & machete and ask you politely to hand over your watch or lose the hand…….

Hence we were asked to keep windows closed and lock the doors when driving in Jakarta or other unsavory places. having a gun just makes you a target and you can’t use it in other countries anyway! Eg no carry laws in Switzerland.
What’s wierd is that it is profitable to steal watches and sell them easily

While I loathe the idea of handing over one of my watches to a mugger, I'll gladly do so if I find myself in that situation. I value my life and my family far more than any watch in my collection. False bravado sounds great on an internet post, but I suspect that it will get you injured or killed in the real world.
