and oh boy am I glad I did. Not a 35k JLC find. But I am ecstatic none the less. It was buried in a vase of jewelry and all I saw was the crown poking out through the distorted glass.
Wow...I love thrift stores and visit them all the time. I have unearthed so many treasures it is insane, and have made a pretty penny off the profits. Interestingly enough I have come across 1 watch worth a crap...not 1! And I have been at it a long time. Glad to see others having luck. It is crazy what people donate.
I was looking aggressively at thrift shops and second hand stores for a few months and it got quite exhausting. I feel that these kinds of things always appear when you aren't actively searching all the time.
I got in a groove when I lived in Old Town Alexandria...would make my rounds weekly, and it paid off. Like anything, the more time and effort you spend, the more likely you are to be successful. Frequency is key...
Never come across anything although I have gifted plenty, yesterday it was a couple of pewter tankards, gave up drinking pints a long time ago.
New battery in and humming like a champ! Date changes at 12 with a satisfying click too! There are some service markings/engravings on the case back but I can't make them out with my eye or phone camera zoom. This happens to be my first Omega as well!
Nice score! What a great way to get a first Omega. That's been my experience as well. Not once have I found a single item of any significant value in a charity shop or boot fair, and I've been to enough of them. I think I'll have to start scouring this area for old-school jewellers...
Best I found was a moon phase seiko Quartz, popped a battery in and it didn't work. Haha but I stop by like twice a year. Lucky find op. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Jake, that's great!! I'm happy for you! Isn't the hum great? Now, have you started looking for a bracelet yet? Otto Frei has the 654 endlinks but not the 1068 bracelet from what I can tell.
oy vey. I was trying to avoid finding out the correct part numbers for the bracelet until after the holidays! Oh well, thank you for informing me and saving me the time of searching for it. And as of right now I am looking for one. And yes the hum is great! I was thrilled when I heard it as I installed the new battery. I am still kind of in shock that I actually found it! It was such an adrenaline rush when I spotted the Omega logo on the crown.
[QUOTE=" This happens to be my first Omega as well![/QUOTE] He'll yea and what better way to aquire one... congrats
So how's it holding up today? Keeping good time? I'm sure you're not obsessively checking it or anything...
