Will this week be a record for fly-by new-member valuations?

I think the holiday season exaggerates what is already happening. We demand instant information and Google has become the place to seek and of course with all the information contained in forums (fora!!) such as these, many are sent immediately down ‘aisle Omegaforums’.
We must be thankful for the occasional gem though. Personally, I’m truly thankful for the advice I received here, but of course I’m exceedingly polite!!

Senior members were on fire answering all the questions over the past few days, but I think I’m beginning to see some fatigue set in today. 😁

Indeed, I was once that guy. I had more questions than niceties. To be fair though, I'm a mathematician social awkwardness is part of the contract. I am better about being polite now, but it doesn't come naturally.
If one quickly realizes they can quickly integrate by being like a whole number the amount of positive interactions they have on OF will multiply. But if they come in like a prime number and have zero considerations for others everyone else will have a negative experience, and derive no satisfaction from interacting with them. Maybe a fraction of the members will still respond, but in general any good feelings will be imaginary. That's the root of the issue. In the end, you either need to add something, or you will wind up being subtracted. I'm sure the moderators' logs are full of such stories. Thankfully their power helps keep things in check.

You just made me wonder if chatgpt can compose puns.

As long as there are photographs...

This is a photography forum after all. I came here after buying a bunch of vintage cameras at the eWaste recycler and eBay. Then took the cameras to Switzerland ...

... all to take this photograph.

Yes, that is an APS image.

I get so distracted with the tell my about my watch posts, I have not done anything more with this project ...

I can’t recall a time since I joined OF that I’ve seen more new member “is this watch legit?” and/or “what is this watch worth?” posts. While I’m pleased to see so much interest in vintage watches, I’m also disappointed that very few of these new members appear to be inclined toward becoming regular contributors to the forum beyond their initial posts.

It’s pretty normal this time of year, there are several previous threads around January years ago asking the same thing. Some will stay and become enthusiasts and many won’t but that’s ok either way, we’ll clean up any duplicates or rude posts and keep things maintained, if anything looks weird or disrespectful the report feature can let us know and we can check it out.

Just another reminder of how hard the moderators work to keep this place what it's all about, sharing information and maybe making a friend or two.

To the noobs, stick around and learn a bit.

Thank you to the mods!

Like many, I came in search of info. I stayed because of the people. Heck, I drink my morning coffee catching up on the forum posts that occurred whilst I was sleeping.

Funny enough you’re not alone, in every timezone peak users is 10AM Monday, so people go to the office, catch up on their emails for the day then start browsing watches since they’re annoyed its Monday

Lol. I’m glad to know that Mondays are universally as fun as they seem to be in my part of this place called Earth

It's our own fault for being too popular and knowledgeable.

Hey, the word is out, unfortunately. Google SEO says this place is full of helpful watch experts.

Is there a way to add a landing page during the registration page that explains how not to abuse said experts?

I think with a brand so diverse in its history and so many (on the surface at least) minor variations between similar models it is very difficult to work out what the 60s watch is that you've just purchased / been given.

I feel like everyone knows someone with a fake Rolex, so I can see why people assume that all brands have a huge number of fakes around. I can only imagine Rolex takes up 80% of the fake watch market?
