Will I ever find a good vintage speedy?!

I've been looking for months and months. Recently met the authors of Moonwatch Only (Interview coming up on my channel soon www.youtube.com/watchhobbyist) and their book has helped immensely in referencing the good, the bad and the ugly.

However, good examples just don't seem to be appearing here in the UK. I've found the odd one in Europe but by the time I've found it, they've been snapped up.

I'd like a pre-moon (straight lugs would be amazing) to transitional range. Something I can wear occasionally and be proud to have amongst my collection. I'll pay the right money for the right watch, but there's just too many out there with issues. The other day I found one. After researching it, I found at least 10 points on which it was incorrect. It was just a total parts bin. Grrrr.

In the meantime, I've picked up a couple of 321 Seamsters which I really love, but it's the Speedmaster I really want alongside them!

They're out there. Even in the UK.

Ebay and FS forum here are the best bet.

I've picked up five in the last 2.5 years and 4 were from UK or Europe

Why do I have the feeling that this thread will trigger a PM or two to our OP? 😉

I hope it does, but that wasn't the intention. The thread was created after year another search that returned nothing :-(

If you think it's his fault, you clearly have never seen @gemini4's collection. https://omegaforums.net/threads/1000th-post-stairway-of-speedmasters-thanks-of.30569/

You can't swear on here right? The picture loaded slowly so I saw only the first section, then the second, and then more!!! Good on them; I'd do exactly the same if I could.

Never, ever found that the watch I was lusting after wasn't out there...just that I wasn't willing to pay what was asked.

I can't add a WTB due to my lack of posts. Fair enough of course but obviously not helping matters :-D

Huh? Of f🤬king course you can f🤬king swear here. I do it all the G🤬 d🤬 time. The censor might pick it up and cover over the s🤬ty cursing though.

🤦

Doesn't anyone REALLY read those stickies? If you have feedback from eBay or transaction history from another forum, send a PM to Darren / @DLT222 so he can ask for an exception for you.

It was just a total parts bin.

You need to start speaking the language. Use "franken" in the future to describe assembled watches like that.

Glad someone got it 😁

I do that. The only thing I've ever found was something worth double its price; it cost £5 😜 Still, one day maybe I'll find a crappy old speedmaster in a shop like that.
