Why So Much Interest In The Speedmaster 3570.50?

I've wondered why there seems to be more interest in the Speedmaster 3570.50 than other Speedmaster's which look to have as much in common with the original Speedmaster such as the 3590.50 and 3592.50.

Or is it just that the 3570.50 is still produced and therefore more recent versions are available?

I'd say the key factors are; it's the closest modern equivalent to the Moon Watch, the most prevalent and best value for money on the second hand market.

What dkpw says and I also think you are right yourself with the last remark. I have some 'consumer behavior data' that backs up the popularity of the 3570.50. It is the current reference number of the one that comes closest to the original Moonwatch. The brown dial version, the sapphire sandwich or other 'similar' versions are always a bit of a 'tweak' of the original. Also, the price of the 3570.50 is very interesting. Although it is their icon watch, it is in the lower price segment of their current collection.

Many people want the classic moonwatch but want the modern luminova night time use. A mix of both worlds while retaining the "soul" of the first watch on the moon. The 3590.50 and such give a vintage feel so many prefer that model while those seeking a more vintage feel will go after the step dial version. Just preferences is all.

I think you are right Kringkily, but this only goes for people that are a bit more 'educated' in watches as newbies rarely buy vintage watches to start with. For a lot of people a modern Speedy is the first step to become a total Speedmaster nut and will eventually buy some vintage models as well :)

Depends on the person but its basically the same reason when you buy a Porsche 911, you don't buy the Cabriolet... or the Targa. Or the one with the paddle shift. Or anything in red.

The only red in my Porsche would be the leather interior. Or the red head next to me.

@Kringkily et al., what does 'the step dial version' mean?
