Well funnily enough I was an underbidder on the original lot. I now remember satisfying myself that the seller is indeed a family jeweler in Uruguay. All his other items are typical of a store, all slightly under quality for slightly too much money for a good example.

If it is a scam, its a good one.

The previous sale does look slightly Shilly now I look at the bidding patterns. I wonder who actually won it. Then failed to complete and why - if he was a real buyer.

Its true its a tired example. But I like those for the right price, they make very attractive watches that can be worn without worrying about trashing the value.

Also, the auction has 9 days to go. I'm not recommending (condition is too rough). i'm just saying it's early in the auction.

Thoughts on previous shill bidding notwithstanding, I'd say the main reason is it has a reasonable start price and it only started a day ago.

If it had a .99 start, or if we were down to the last day or two, I'd expect bids.

Looks like this one sold for $12,500. Looks a bit high to me, but wondering your opinions on this? I am guessing this would be the "running" category on speedmaster101 so this looks sold for a bit of a preimium. Wondering if I am missing anything.

I guess others aren't concerned about buying from certain other locations and dealing with the cost, customs, and the general concerns that it's riskier than buying within the US, (if you're in the US) but I avoid all sales from Central and S. America. I know Paypal should protect me up to a certain level, but I feel better not rolling those dice. I imagine that watch would sell for 15 to 20 if sold within the US.

Really? Looks pretty beat up to me. I'm surprised to see its worth that much. Crazy the value on these 2998s!

I completely agree. It looks rougher than I'd prefer to spend for a watch at that price point.

I definitely need more research on these as I have no idea how to price them. Out of curiosity what woukd you do to "clean this up"?

I'll go out on a limb here and say it could use a bezel. I'm not buying (pun intended) that "ghost" nonsense. Bezels that were polished along with the case and crystal are just damaged.

A new bezel would certainly spruce it up, though I don't mind the faded bezel.

Looks like the hands may have been redone already and if that were so, I would probably do them over in a nicer colour (though if original, keep them obviously).

Probably needs a service too.. Otherwise, polish the crystal and enjoy!

In the current market this was a good buy. Eight weeks and £500 with Simon at STS and it would be a lovely and useable watch.

And there's every reason to believe that in next year's market, it would be a very good buy.

Looked pretty good for the price. I personally was deciding to be more selective/cautious these days on location and dealing with the importation issues.
If it were sold from UK I would be all over it, but, I sense so would others and the price may have been more.
It looks like a great daily vintage wear. Whilst not perfect. I would be happy to have on my wrist.
