It is not that I am going to buy but just curious and want to learn more, as to why the high asking price for this particular watch.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200818933809?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Usually the price of a Rolex Day-Date in yellow gold is between $4 000.00 and $5 000.00, depending on its condition.

However the asking price of this one is rather high. Is it because
    1) it is white gold
    2) the day is not in English
    3) the Arabic numerals on the perimeter of the minute track
    4) the grey slate dial (is the dial genuinely made of slate or it is slate-color only)?

    Thank-you.

I think it's a combination of white gold, greed, and wishful thinking.

I realize the price of his watches is over the top, perhaps.

Very likely, he has a deep pocket and could not care less, whether any of his watches, sells or not.

Is the dial really made of slate? I am curious to know this.

    Thank-you.

If you think that's high, see what a Stella dial 1803 goes for, or some of the rarer original Serti dials, you'll be shocked.

Do these Stella and Serti dials make a Rolex Day-Date a desirable time-piece, amongst collectors of Rolex?

    Thank-you.

Surely, he is a seller of top-end vintages, especially for film stars.

He must have forgotten about the sparrows like us.

    Thank-you.

Indeed, it is in awesome condition, while the price is equally awesome, too.

    Thank-you.

Those with special dials (you are one of those few to own this) are becoming more desirable today, I reckon. However, the asking price is a little too high, since the seller can afford to keep his watches for a long while. The longer he keeps, the higher the price will be, he believes.

I have a friend interested in an 1803 pink gold in top condition, without its bracelet. Do you think, there is any on the world-wide market, currently? I have searched on eBay and there is none without a bracelet and those with, the asking price is untouchable.

    Thank-you.

It is appreciated and I shall let my friend know.

With a bracelet the price is usually high and this is expected. My friend has in mind, something between $5 000.00 and $6 000.00. I doubt he will get one in top condition, for that price.

Which of the two metals, white or pink, will keep its resale value better?

    Thank-you.
