Why is this one special

hey guys,
Still trying to get a handle on the vintage omega market, prices seem consistent for some models and all over the map for others. Was watching this one on eBay (wasn’t interested in buying it, it was just in my saved items) and was shocked by the selling price compared to others that appear close to this that are selling for $2-300 less on the regular.
So what is so special about this one that warranted 58 bids and a selling price of $881?

Noob.

Probably two of them. If you look at the bidding history, you can see that the eventual winner bumped up his max about $200 every time he got out bid. He entered the auction with a bid of $500, got out bid, bumped it to $800, got out bid again, and set his max to something more than $881. The second highest bidder kept pushing him up, but topped out at $876.

Wonder if he realised it is only ~31mm? Hefty noob tax that.

Or just as likely it was shilled to suck in the underbidder. I wouldn't give more than $300 for a steel ladies watch.

That I am...but how else are us noobs to know if we don’t ask.
He didn't necessarily mean you, I read it that he meant the highest bidder who probably didn't realise it was a ladies watch.

So to answer the question more directly- I am to assume there was nothing special and we have a bidding war between two people who didn’t know what they were looking at but loved the “golden glow patina”?

Yes, got that after I replied -but I am indeed a noob...trying NOT to make mistakes like those noobs...although I already have made a few....all part of the cost of an education

Not everyone gives a flying doodah about price. An affluent professional with little time to spare might like a watch and decide to just get it regardless.

That is some bizarre bidding- maybe the buyer was having a seizure while his hand was on the keyboard

Good lord - that's going to hurt! Maybe he has a small child who can wear it...

I totally would have gotten that for my girlfriend if it were $200. The 29-32mm men’s watches from this time period make for awesome ladies watches.
I picked up a 29mm omega dress watch for $100 and she loves it
