Respectable Members Surprisingly or not surprisingly, for a relatively young brand-name, Rolex is the top-selling watch in the world, today. Is it the name 'Rolex' or the 'oyster' case or the quality of its movement or the marketing strategy that makes Rolex, popular with the young and old? Do bear in mind, the Cellini belongs to Rolex too but it is struggling to stay above water, as well as remember, popular does not mean best. Thank-you.
Rolex's marketing pushed the right buttons at the right time and the brand name has become synonymous with success to the general public because of that. They make a good watch, just not the best on the face of the Earth as some believe. They've been around for a century so they aren't that young. My question is how do the vintage Subs get to be so expensive when they aren't rare by any stretch of the imagination.
I think its a bit like Harley Davidson and Levi's jeans, it came out of nowhere as a reliable working class man's watch, and was carried by a combination of smart marketing and pop culture to where it is.
Marketing, marketing, marketing. And while it may be the top selling watch in terms of $revenue it is not the one with the most numbers. I bet citizen, seiko, swatch and other brands sell more watches.
Without a doubt! And please change that avatar. I think Ashley was attempting to prod you into adding one of your own.
It fits perfectly, he's MSNWatch and its a nice MSN logo with a butterfly for good measure, I was pretty proud of myself tbh.
Okay, looks cool now - I might have to come up with a nice font macro, but I kinda think my avatar fits my flipping and project watch habits.
Respectable Member ulackfocus Thanks for your response. Though Rolex is approximately a century old, the popularity of Rolex surpasses that of the likes of Girard Perregaux, Vacheron & Constantin and some others, who are very much older. Of course, we are not talking about Patek Philippe, since this brand is in a class of its own, I think. I think the price of the Subs, especially those with some red writings on the dial, has gone through the roof. It is difficult to understand, as to why people are willing to pay so much money for them. Very likely, those who are willing to pay, way beyond our imagination, is because they love those Subs, too much. Love is blind. Thank-you.
Respectable Member dsio Thanks for the response. Yes, these are the people who would just pay any amount of $$, on anything that tickles their fanciful life-style. Thank-you.
Respectable Member MSNWatch Thanks for the response. For the big dollars, some people are willing to pay, there must be a reason for it. I agree, marketing plays an important role towards Rolex success. After all, Hans was never a watchmaker but a businessman. Thank-you.
It was the Northern Hemisphere summer of 1994 when Nate Dogg and Warren G, aka, the regulateurs, decided that Rolex was the finest watch producer on the planet. Such is there power.
