Why is a certain watch your favorite?

58B64B45-4DCD-4573-9B5F-2910A6F9382E.jpeg Have you ever wondered why a certain time piece (Omega or otherwise) holds a certain value to you over all others in your collection?

Is it because it looks better (subjectively speaking), it’s special because of a certain event, it’s rare model to find? Price? Accuracy? Family heirloom?

For me - it’s rather simple! The ‘cheaper’ one in my collection ‘just feels right on my wrist’ - 41mm SMPc. It has the right proportion, weight, rugged yet elegant and it’s a chameleon- it goes with any attire!

    What about you? Discuss!

Note - I’m not a great photographer, so that’s not my pic, just from Dr. Google. But it’s same as mine...better angle, lighting, focus, etc.

I read your post, and my answer is a bit more complicated than yours. I reflected on my childhood. Being a product of the early 70's, it never really occurred to me how much the time period I grew up in shaped me as a person--the Miracle Mets, Broadway Joe, and of course the Ferrari killer Gulf Ford GT40 (the 1st car I ever fell in love with). Among these things was space travel (Star Trek, anyone?). I always had an interest in space, astronomy, etc. I even was accepted to several colleges for aerospace engineering (which I did not persue) I was a young teen (tween?] when I learned about the moonwatch--that was over 35 years ago. Since then it has been the only watch I ever wanted to own. About 25 years ago, me and my fiancee were shopping for wedding rings, and don't you know, they had a moonwatch in the display. I knew I could leave with a bride or a watch, but not both. The watch never again was the topic of any discussion for the next 25 years, until Fathers Day when I was presented with my Speedy Pro Moonwatch. She's a keeper.

Beveled case makes it the most comfortable, I don’t mind if it gets a scratch, it’s well built, and has great lume and wrist presence. Oh, and I tell people that may comment “it’s only a Seiko”.

When I find a favourite, I'll let you know.
It will likely have a rotating bezel of some kind.

Excellent story Sweli - thanks for sharing! Most of us here can somewhat relate! I mean...it’s the Moonwatch!!!

Although my wife just kind of puts up with my hobbies, she just let’s me buy whatever i want (within reason of course, despite my lust over a 911 GTS). You’re a lucky man - blessings!

I find myself telling my 6 yr old daughter (to instill the legacy) - Omega The Only Watch that made it to the Moon.

“Why is a certain watch your favorite?”

My faithful and beloved Seiko 6309-7049 automatic is my favorite due to it being flown for over 10,000 flight hours as a military helo pilot and then as an airline pilot...as well as it surviving the mean streets of Cincinnati [Ohio] for 2 years as a Cincinnati Police Officer. I purchased my faithful and beloved Seiko 6309-7049 automatic new in 1987 while in U.S. Navy primary pilot training.

Well my favorite watch has a story behind it that makes it my favorite. A few other ex intelligence officers on the board have most likely heard the story.

Yeah ‘‘twas me with that guy during the thing when the watch did that other thing causing the revolution in that country.

Ummm...have you been bombing hills on your skateboard without a helmet again? :D

I never personally bombed anything. The rumor is untrue.

I assume you mean hill as the country that starts with “ F “ and helmet means a pave penny system, and the Skateboard was an HH60. I could see why you heard that rumor.

I wish I could pin one down, but just when I find my new favorite another one comes along ;)

I would love to have a bit of history with a watch (great story @Mad Dog ) but I'm pretty new to the game.

However of the recent favorites it sometimes can come down to the unpolished nature of a vintage watch or the way the hands/lume stand out or the functionality of a watch or just the cheapest Pepsi bezel I could get.

I see I’m not the only one with this choice but for me it’s my Seiko Marinemaster sbdx017

As Oasis sang “true perfection has to be imperfect” and this watch is far from perfect- technically. It’s too high for normal people, probably too heavy and doesn’t have a ceramic bezel or sapphire crystal. It isn’t hugely expensive and it can’t be serviced by mere mortals either but I don’t care about all that, I just love it(and rarely own a watch long enough to worry about servicing!). It feels amazing on the wrist once you’ve got used to the size/weight(took me a couple of days and a properly sized bracelet) and it really suits me- despite the size it feels like my secret when I wear it.

Mad Dog - first THANK YOU for your service! Second, very cool story...talk about a rugged piece that stands the tests of time (and trials and tribulations of hard core activities as diverse as the owners who chose this particular timepiece)!!!
