Hi guys, I am very very close to putting down the payment for this Longines Pulsometer Chronograph.
Can you try your very best to talk me out of getting this watch?

In your opinions, is it worth putting down USD 3300 for this watch?
Would love to hear your opinions.

    Thanks.

Do you go to a bar and ask them to help you stop drinking? :p

    Okay, here's my best attempt:

    There, did it work? :D

You shouldn't buy it because er, umm.................

    42?

Stuffed if I know, I think this another question for Deep Thought.

My opinion, you should go to town or by bus.

Don't buy it because Longines insist on messing up their heritage pieces with superfluous date windows! .... at least they put this one in a better position I guess but it's still annoying! Spend 2k on a killer solid gold vintage Zenith or something

    OK let me try:
    1. It's got a nice dial but the monopusher doesn't quite activate crisply enough (for me at least)
    2. It's too thick for me, and sits funny on my wrist. The rounded edges of the case accentuate its thickness
    3. For that price, as some have mentioned, I'd rather go vintage.
    4. That date aperture ruins it.

    There, did that work? :D

Our crowd are typically enablers who make up funny reasons "not" to buy something, which are usually thinly veiled reasons to do just the opposite. Here however, I think NT931 has touched on reasons that I personally would not buy it.
I have great respect for vintage Longines, and some of their homages to their historic pieces are superb (the no-date Legend Diver and 35mm Conquest come to mind). Longines (like many old brands today) is really a shadow of the greatness they once were.
As much as I love a 7750-base chrono, for me in this guise it just doesn't work. The style is too "antiquey"-looking, and feels odd with a date window and a spinning rotor. The price is way too high, given its proximity in quality to a Hamilton (which I love for the very reason they are well-made and well-priced on grey-market).
If you check your pulse for 30 beats and it stops at 200, clearly the watch excites you (and you should consider seeking medical attention for your abnormally rapid pulse). I can't comment on the style because style is so subjective (wait, did I call it antiquey-looking)? But I just can't subscribe to Swatch's placement of Longines in their hierarchy. It's not that much better than a Hamilton, and not very close to Omega.

don't buy it because it is a soulless imitation of a vintage watch. You want vintage, get a vintage. You want modern, get a modern.

Same as Lou above. It's not vintage. Find a nice 30CH instead. A much, much more attractive Longines IMO

    Agree. Somewhat.
Vintage watches can be a delicate proposition. They are not as well shock-proofed, and if you need a vintage part, good freaking luck.
Some contemporary watches are nice compromises for those who like a vintage look. I mentioned a few Longines above, and I will add that many of our members admire the Omega FOIS model. They prefer wearing the modern interpretation to risking damage to a 50-year old original Ed White 105.003

(In stock at Jomashop for $3,395 if you want one).
So I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with wearing a vintage looking contemporary watch. The Longines in the OP just misses that mark (in my opinion).

Granted, though it doesn't try quite as hard as the Longines. I have a soft spot for B&R styling, so for modern, how about this (42mm version) :p
