I'm lurking after Speedmaster Professional and this question has risen.
You can buy brand new Speedy Pro for 3250USD from Jomashop today.
And people sell here and elsewhere new or 1+ year old model, sometimes used, for more.
    I just don't get it.
Could somebody please explain this to me :)

Prices on here can routinely start pretty high, much more so than elsewhere where, err 'constructive criticism' of pricing is allowed. Sellers will often listen to reasonable offers though so your choice is to wait for the price to come down to a level you are happy with or shoot them an offer and hope they aren't the sort to get angry if it isn't what they think it is worth. Oh and what it is advertised for isn't necessarily what it sells for of course...

    Or.....

The "used" models come with Omega Warranty card, where as the Jomashop models do not.

In the UK, a brand new Speedmaster costs almost exactly the $3250 figure quoted above before sales tax (VAT at 20%) from a grey dealer and will come with the full international transferable warranty.

$3250 is for the strap version which no one wants.
$3474 is the price for the bracelet version.

The only dealer I found selling one recently was @mdgrwl and he is at $3595 NIB but with omega warranty which Joma doesn’t offer.

So $120 for full omega warranty and he might even knock off a few bucks if you ask nicely. Maybe not. Never bought from him.

I don’t see any other listings for less. Maybe post them?

@mdgrwl is a good seller - we couldn't come to terms with an agreement, but he was great to work with. Highly recommended!

Yep, Jomashop does not come with a true manufacturer warranty (it comes with their own, which is not a very good one at that) and so watches sold by them are worth less than those with genuine warranties. Even less so when someone is trying to sell their used Jomashop watch.

I actually think the strap one is a better deal, as it comes with the deployant that can be used on any number of straps. This normally will cost you a minimum of $200 aftermarket. Since the current model bracelet isn't particularly well regarded the first thing many do is take it off. Even if this isn't the case you can usually source a used bracelet for $400. Sell the uninspiring black Omega strap for at least $100 and you are ahead of the game vs buying the bracelet originally.

So after all that work you end up with a deployment clasp with no strap, no original bracelet and $100

Literally no one has ever done this

Also having a strap custom made to fit that deployant will cost you a minimum of around $100 so you’re even at best. Better off to buy the bracelet and have it as an option for the summer

Sigh. Let's look at that with the numbers, shall we?

$3474 -3250 = $224 + $100 from strap sale = $324. There are actually some really nice croc (and other) straps available from Vietnamese leather workers for $40-50. So say you get two to have some variety. Then you are back to having $~224. Buy a bracelet when you find one for $400 - it can be easily done with some patience. So now you've spent $224-$400 = $175 more than the bracelet model costs originally, but you have a guaranteed genuine deployant, 2 straps, and a bracelet. I think it comes out ahead - especially if you don't want the bracelet. I get why it's not for everyone, but to me, if I were buying, it would make more sense.

No I don’t buy it at all and it makes even less sense in the UK where the strap version is only £50 less than the bracelet one. It is a pretty much universal rule of thumb that regardless of your strap/bracelet preference the best plan is to buy on the bracelet then use (and reuse) a leather and deployant as you see fit. Leather straps degrade and acquire DNA so are much less desirable to a second user, meaning that at resale a metal bracelet model is generally worth more still than the original premium. Also your maths only stacks up if you use a second hand bracelet. If comparing like for like you should IMO cost it as a brand new bracelet so more like $550.

I did not know that Jomashop has their own warranty and no official Omega warranty. I guess it makes a difference.

Could you share info who's selling for that price in UK?

Have a look at Hackett watches. I’ve never bought from them but have spoken to Dom a few times about trading, we couldn’t agree a price but he’s a nice guy. I’ve seen good reviews on other forums.

I would imagine the higher price for used come with AD papers, as opposed to Jomashop papers. Doesn’t matter to most, but some put a slightly higher value on dealer papers.
