·I have been on the Briary’s (in Birmingham, AL) mailing list for years- they do some fun custom blend pipe tobaccos I have ordered from them in the past. Usually I ignore most of the promo news or in-store events but I read this email and it gave me pause:
Hello all you wonderful customers of The Briary.
We are at a monumental crossroads. In August our store will officially be 48 years old , If we make it. The store is still generating revenue but we are out of one thing that we need to continue. We have no employees.
My wife, Kay and I are going to continue to be here but will no longer be open on Mondays. The rest of the week will stay the same. This is not ideal and with any luck will not continue very long.
I have been in contact with people to possibly sell this place. It is not what I want to do but at my age I have no interest in being the only employee. We have a lot of friends that go back decades, even generations. It is a very difficult decision.
It would be doubtful that a new tobacco shop will come in and there are a lot of people that would like to use it for something else.
There is no time line at all.
Thank you for your support.

I actually thought for a second…hmmm…do I want to be a tobacconist? Do I want to move to Alabama? I’m 20 years away from retirement and I love my current job so this wouldn’t be a move for me- but I figured I would throw this out to the rest of this very bizarre group of people as someone here may want to find their second wind running an old time brick and mortar tobacco shop.
Their website sucks (which may be part of their issue) but Google has some decent pics of what it looks like.
