Looks like somebody picked up a very nice black dial Conquest ref 9000. I had asked the person running the auction for a BIN price and was told "I already have bids, it wouldn't be fair." Not 8 hours later, ended the auction for a BIN of $1k. So, I'm a little miffed, but congrats to the new owner.

 

$1k is very high given the shape of the medallion and that no movement pictures were provided and it will surely need a service.

 

I agree that I probably wouldn't have gone to $1k without some movement shots. But, these black dials with silver hardware aren't seen all that often.

 

Are you sure that the hardware is silver and not gold? Pictures can be deceiving. It is a very honest example for sure.

 

Saw that and I also don't think it would have made it to $1k without the BIN. I'm sure the other 3 will pop back up soon to recover the cost.

 

I'm not completely sure, but it certainly looks silver.

 

It was me who snatched it! I was proposing a price to the seller. The high BIN was only to protect the lot from beeing snatched by others as the actual price was lower. It wasn't a steal, but I think both, me and the seller can be happy

Funny how the circle of black dialled Conquests will close again between us. This definitely needs to be celebrated on a GTG some day.

The black dialled Conquest finally arrived at my place Using 800 and 1200 sandpaper first and polywatch later I was able to polish the crystal. Looks much better now and a nicely preserved gilt dial was revealed. On closer inspection it seems that the rehaut (inner bezel) is missing or too small and there is some rust at the very edge of the dial just about to creep around the corner. I was not able to open the case to see what's going on inside. It's already en route to watchguy.co.uk. I am sure Christian will take good care of it and I am looking forward to add it to my collection.



P.S: Trinity shot of gold, silver and black Conquest will be delivered in the next days. After one year of looking I managed to get a second black dialled Conquest with golden furniture

 

It looks all good. Those oversize conquests/all guards are some of my favorite case shapes. The dials are also very easy to read. Is the hardware gold or silver in the end? Still difficult to tell from the new picture. Does anyone know where to source those crowns?

 

I love them too! Its my favourate 50ies 3-hand watch design - at least in the price range that I can afford.
This one has silver furniture. Will post the black with golden furniture soon. In the meantime here is something nice in all stainless steel and one with rose gold furniture from my collection.



P.S.: Conquest crowns can be found on eBay from time to time, but you have to be patient. Even if Longines has some left they will only fit them if you send your watch for service to St. Imier as far as I know.

 

Love these examples, so so clean! These 1st gen conquest are 35mm but have lovely wrist presence with their beefy case and lugs! Still hoping to catch one solid rose gold example!

 

The black dialled Conquest has arrived at the workshop and Christian is already working on it. Luckily the inside shows no major defects as well, so I am quite confident it will turn out very nice at the end.
