Scooped up this 18k gold Venus 170 Select Watch Co. Chronograph. Does anyone know anything about this watch company? Would love to know some history behind them before deciding on if this is a keeper or flip for me.
The marking "Select Watch Co.", and the word "Swiss" were not done at the factory. It is so crudely engraved that I doubt it would ever be possible to nail it down to anyone in particular. AFAIK, it would not be possible to copyright the word Select. Mikrolisk doesn't have a listing for a Select Watch co. It seems odd to me that there appears to be no name on the dial.
"I doubt it would ever be possible to nail it down to anyone in particular." It looks like someone engraved it with a nail.
I'm coming into this conversation a little late but I will say that Select Watch Co. is probably the original distributor of the timepiece. I happen to have a Venus 170 watch that I'm reassembling which had Elweb Trading Co. very crudely engraved on the chronograph bridge. I couldn't figure out why any owner would do that to their watch but with a little research on the internet I discovered that Elweb Trading Co. was a real business entity based out of New York and they did in fact sell watches. I imagine your timepiece has the same type of history.
