Last time I was in San Francisco (mid to late 90's)there was some sort of international beer festival going on. In one booth they were serving an Egyptian beer from a recipe that dated back to the Pharaohs. Surprisingly good stuff. Sort of a thick yellow brew with consistency of milk, it was said to be very nutritious. This beer was served to the laborers at the Pyramids and to stone cutters. Safer to drink than water because the mild alcohol content killed germs.
