I am an expert in two areas:

1. Going to the Omega boutique and making a purchase.
2. Registering on the Omega forum and getting a username and password.

Hi

The guy who signs off Good Hunting happens to be me . A few people on the forum know me ( like we used to meet for coffe once a month or so ....and a few have my cel and we catch up from time to time ) a lot of newer members here really don't .

First off I love this forum keep up the good work as it is a " global village ". I am a long time collector , before watches it was phonographs , cameras , pens .... But when I found timepieces that was focus since late 80s. Military , railroad grade , clocks .... And watches . I found myself focusing on Omega as my brother gave me his 66 speedy pro when he no longer wanted it . Just so you know my brother is 14 years my elder and I wanted his watch since I was about 5 or 6 years old ....
I have been a moderator at Watchnet, TimeZone and Purist over the years .... I have spent a lot of time researching and collecting Speedys, the chronometre , and sharing my experiences on the above forums over the years . I first met chuck Maddox back in about 94 getting out bid on an omega pamphlet and o reach out to him saying who the heck are you !? Hahah . We became very close friends taking every day . As he was new to collecting at that time . We were both in the Mac world and watches ... Go figure .

The one thing I was envious about Chuck , he quite his day job and just published 24/7 where I could not . But being a traveling sales guy I used to visit him at lest two to three times a year and a lot of other people all over the world like Franco.

So when I get the chance to post and publish its for the love of the hobby . Nothing else . Sorry I don't have the time to repost all me stuff here , but if your interested just google "bill sohne omega " or " bill sohne zenith " stuff will pop up .

Best To everyone

I'm no expert but so I'll wait for the experts to chime in, I think Christos71 has a lot of insights about many watches, connies for example, Tom Dick is always thorough for megahertz watches and quartz watches, in fact it is my dream to snag one of his watches one day, they are always superb and the guy who always signs off with good hunting seems to have a lot of detailed knowledge too. Archer goes without saying and Canuk both offer nice advice about the mechanics of watches.

Hi

That is exactly what a forum is great for, a place to to post questions and requests . But before tou post your question it would be in good form to do a search on the forum if the question was previously posted and possibly replied to .
Just a thought

You are correct and thank you.

And it is that time of the year for me again. After the Super Bowl, I'll go into virtual hibernation until mid-April.

Hi Lillatroll

Your not rude all. Just figured I am one of the last generation of Omega maniacs .... There is an even old guard when I was young and first started out heard of one or two guys .

One still emails me once a year or so ....

Either way , I will try to view and comment when I can ad value to the thread . Basic rule of thumb. If you can't add value then don't post.

Great rule!

I try to follow that, don't always succeed.

Totally agree with the "adding value" idea. However, to me this does not mean that every post has to be deadly serious in which people discuss the technical and aesthetic merits of revered timepieces in measured and respectful tones.

One of the pleasures of this forum is, in my opinion, the mix of the serious/informative and the sometimes completely surreal. Some of the most entertaining threads wander off into "Far Side" territory and long may it continue 👍

Makes a pedantic iconoclast like me feel right at home 😎

I'm no expert on experts but I deeply appreciate the experts here for taking the time to help poor schmucks like me. Not just on watches I own or debate buying, the sharing of knowledge. My wife laughs about how often this site is open on my iPad but its to game practical knowledge. I'm not likely to ever drop $15k on a watch but I can still appreciate it and learn more about it.

Many use this forum as their personal google. Shame that they are missing so much....

Bill, when you started posting here I had friends pm'ing me excited as hell!

I'll second this. I don't have much to offer myself, but appreciate the open sharing by so many members with so much expertise and the welcoming of newbies willing to read and learn.

This thread almost makes me want to find out exactly what percentage of my contributions are informational versus what percentage are of the goofing off variety. Then I look underneath my avatar and realize I don't have the patience to sort through 18K+ posts. Let's say it's 50 / 50 and call it a night. 😜

Besides, thread drift is one of the charms of ΩFs. 👍 Where else can you be discussing the ins & outs of a 2998 in the first few posts only to end up talking about oatmeal cookies, rampaging rodents and/or reptiles, and The Force before the middle of the next page?

2. Registering on the Omega forum and getting a username and password.

Why yes - yes you are! Practice does make perfect. 😉😁

I find the the debates and even thread drift sometimes resemble a "Delphi" process in action. The process, described briefly below courtesy of Wikipedia, can be an effective way of narrowing in on the truth/collective wisdom, particularly in circumstances where there are many shades of grey.

"The Delphi method (/ˈdɛlfaɪ/ del-fy) is a structured communication technique or method, originally developed as a systematic, interactive forecasting method which relies on a panel of experts.[The experts answer questionnaires in two or more rounds. After each round, a facilitator or change agent provides an anonymous summary of the experts’ forecasts from the previous round as well as the reasons they provided for their judgments. Thus, experts are encouraged to revise their earlier answers in light of the replies of other members of their panel. It is believed that during this process the range of the answers will decrease and the group will converge towards the "correct" answer. Finally, the process is stopped after a predefined stop criterion (e.g. number of rounds, achievement of consensus, stability of results) and themean or median scores of the final rounds determine the results.

Delphi is based on the principle that forecasts (or decisions) from a structured group of individuals are more accurate than those from unstructured groups. The technique can also be adapted for use in face-to-face meetings, and is then called mini-Delphi or Estimate-Talk-Estimate (ETE). Delphi has been widely used for business forecasting and has certain advantages over another structured forecasting approach, prediction markets."

Hi
I understand where your coming from. Please keep in mind that is my rule of thumb, I know it's kind of dry. Guess it just being a moderator in a past life , I needed to be moderate. For people who have met me in person , I am no way moderate and low key.... Hahahahahaha

Looking vowed to reading everyone's post.

Hi UB

YOUR MAKING ME BLUSH. hahaha . I never knew.

It is a great hobby .... But you gota watch out as our hobby gets bigger .... The level of ethics and self respect drops... And it's not a gentelman's game anymore. EBay not as much fun , trading and selling on forums has be come more risky . I have seen more and more of it and has slowed me down in the hobby. But that is onl my perception.

But it is funny when I hear "Expert" ... One thing I can tell you , typical the guy or gal calling themself an expert most of the time are not. I just remermber walking thru a NAWCC regional show ( at Daytona beach fl). Walked by a dealer who had a few Omegas , I ask a question about one watch and we got into a discussion about a Connie . He told me one thing and I disagreed. He was really sure if himself, I just said in my travels I have not seen anything like that . He was nice enough to leave it at that, we shook hands said have a nice day and last thing he did was introduced himself and I did the same . He then dud a double take and looked at my membership badge and apologize.

Go figure .

Good hunting
