Hey everyone, With the rising prices of the SS daytona (ceramic and non ceramic) , I have been looking at PM pieces (specifically white gold #stealthwealth) with a little more interest. What's everyone's thoughts on the PM vs SS daytona in regards to wearability, durability and collectability? This piece (116509 slate dial) 'may' be available for purchase in the future from an antiques dealer I know locally which I could be interested in at the right price. It is quite scuffed up, but comes with box/papers. Do you think it could clean up nicely? Where would be the best place to source one of the newer blue dials (if i was so inclined to change it)? Cheers, Ed
You have to dial swap with Rolex and they keep the original. It’s not my cup of tea... dig the grey hate everything else.
There are talks of Rolex no longer swapping different dials on sports watches, even if it has the same reference number. Supposedly, they only offer the service on the DateJust and Day-Date now. I would call a RSC first to confirm. Since you haven't purchased it yet, you might be better off purchasing the Daytona with the dial you want in the first place.
Looks really nice. Check RolexForums under parts and accessories. They have had a few Daytona dials for sale over the last 6 months.
Research, research and research. Find out everything about this model and which specialists are our there to service, refurbish and modify. It is easy to cosmetically cleanup a Rolex. If you want, just get a high quality independent to swap the dial once you find a replacement.
I prefer the black/red dial WG model and do a light polish on the bracelet. It’s a beautiful piece indeed and you can’t go wrong with it.
I am not sure which dial you are looking for ? I have the one pictured below for sale, I don't know if it fits your intended. It came off a 116523. Your call.
Sorry just reread the post , no blue dial mate. The slate dial is pretty kool. Marked case is ok too, there are way too many almost perfect pieces appearing on the market, that happens only one way and it isn't nice .
I personally think it’s agreat looking watch with the dial it has and as I am am not that keen on polished watches I would be tempted to leave the case and bezel as is. In terms of collectability the white gold Daytona (116519) was the final reference owned by Paul Newman.
