...should be enjoyed separately. This is an absolute travesty. https://scotchwhisky.com/magazine/latest-news/13138/world-s-oldest-scotch-in-new-whisky-watch/
Big fan of fine whiskey and watches. Drunk neat with perhaps a drop of water and worn proudly but not unitized. What a waste of good whiskey!
I doubt something that old is actually any good at this point. I've never heard of a bottle over 60 that's not toast. The exception would be the Shackleton bottles but they where in subzero conditions which prevented any loss and then the associated oxidation. I'm speaking of bottle age and not Malt age.
What an absolute waste of whiskey. Think they must have had a bit too much of it when approving that idea....
Not a waste. The whisky has collector value but not drinking value. The whisky is most likely not older then 18 if not lower. Yes the bottle is over 151 years old but that's different. The last bottle of this to come to auction went for less then $8,000. That should tell you something. Also this is not the oldest bottle of Scotch in existence there is a Glenavon that is pre 1858 floating around, that sold for 14k pounds a few years back. Drinkable old scotches that barrel aged for 40 plus years are in the 100k a bottle range and up. A big problem on old bottle Scotch is they can and will go bad in the bottle. Stuff distilled In the 50-60's and more Recently bottled is super expensive as having a barrel last that long and not have the alcohol content drop below 40% is rare. Scotch has legal protection and has to be at least 40% and the age is the age of the youngest "juice" in the bottle. FYI here is a picture of the Watch, or one of the Rum or Cognac ones they did last year. I'm guessing this is the Cognac one from the date and fleur-de-lis.
Not a travesty, but definitely tasteless: the whiskey, the watch, and those involved in making this abomination.
Here I thought we were going to be talking about delicious Scotch and some Omegas then discuss a meetup where we drink Scotch and talk about watches.
This actually makes some of those Romain Jerome DNA watches seem like not such a dumb idea by comparison. And they're pretty dumb.
I apologize; I knew what I was doing with that title. Perhaps the discussion could pivot to something redemptive like that.
lol no need for an apology, I read the article and had a good laugh, showed my friends and we laughed together. Good times.
dunno, perhaps the whiskey might be a good ingredient for the paint mixture to make the patina for the markers/hands
