but this Four Roses is stellar.

I second the afinity for the Four Roses Small Batch Select.

This is a limited sipper, limited to PA and OH, that I've enjoyed a pour or two of lately.

Ok I’ll play. Lots to choose from but the Macallan 12 is my constant go to.

Gotta admit I’m not a whiskey guy but after someone I knew purchased a liquor store I am coming closer to obtaining one of the rare batches of heavens door whiskey. There is debate if Dylan actually signed any bottles the few that are “signed” the signature only becomes visible when the bottle is empty. It’s the “boot leg” series, which Dylan had trademarked years prior to actually getting involved in the alcohol business.

Anyway I stopped by to see if the owner needed cash up front or whatever she laughed at me. She gave me some of these nips off top shelf whiskies. I gave a few away but kept the Johny walker blue.

I always thought any scotch or whiskey tastes the same which was not good, but back in the day I drank for impact. Well this was different, I had the little Johny blue last night I tasted the oak and some coal type flavor. I know ice not for whiskey drinkers of discernment but I’m not one of them.

At least I get the appreciation factor now.

In that Yea. Smoke and peat. Peat is burned as the heating element to toast the malt in some scotch, esp the ones from the isle of Islay. Johnny Walker is a blending house that blends from multiple distilleries. In Blue some of the Scotch’s blended are peated.

I have a problem…. Over a hundred bottles of Scotch…. It’s a collecting problem and thankfully not a drinking problem.

Still a problem. And I’m pretty good at tasting a single malt and telling you who distilled it….

There is something wrong with me.

Fun fact Islay uses the peat as fuel as there are no trees on the island as they have been long since cut down for fuel or building material. The island experiences such high winds that new tree growth is hard.

I find it interesting to see how the Scottish whisky industry has changed over the years. When I was young most people I knew just had blended whisky (Bells, Famous Grouse, Jonnie Walker, etc), and single malts were not seen that often and were something a bit fancy.
When visiting friends, relatives or at the local pub, this was a regular phrase “come away in. Aye you’ll have a wee whisky then”, not really a question but more a statement 😀

I think there is now maybe 50 distilleries within 50 miles of my home town. Definitely good for the Scottish whisky industry.

The resurgence of Scotch is an interesting thing. The big distilleries that caught on fast, like Talisker, Ardbeg, Laphroiag, I really enjoyed those in college. I'm a little unsure of why they were dying off in the second half of the 20th century, but globalism and easy/cheap shipping during the 90s and 00s probably has a lot to do with why they came roaring back. In 2010 you could get a bottle of Ardbeg 10 for $35, halfway around the globe from where it was bottled, which is an incredible feat to think about.

Well this isn’t going as I expected. I got a call to stop down at the liquor store as the owner got in some heavens door. I did a little more research it seems to be appreciated amongst the whiskey crowd, probably belongs in the price range it is in. Dylan’s involvement is on the peripheral they don’t pretend he’s involved making every batch and overseeing everything.

However I had requested the 25 year old bottle so I could put it away. I got there and she had this 10 year old bottle for me. They say “limited” but I don’t think they are hard to get. I wasn’t upset or anything I thanked her and took out my wallet to pay she would have none of it. That kind of bothered me that was not why I went this route it’s just she recently opened I thought it would help her business but apparently it’s booming and she was not taking anything from me. I’ll figure out how to even that up.

Now this is a big ass bottle. I can’t give any review as I don’t know if I’m going to open it or or “collect it” for lack of a better word. Being a geek I took my wife shopping Sunday and I was looking through the store as they do sell glassware I wanted to get one of the glasses they make especially for whiskey. No luck. I’ll decide Friday if it should be opened.
@Foo2rama have you tried this or do you obtain a bottle in your fine collection. If I do open this anything I need to do as I can’t down booze like I once did it’s gonna be around unless my buddy who gluttonous connoisseur stops by.

Poor pics but pics they are

An empty bottle? Shocking! Who could possibly drink nearly 2l of Buffalo Trace?

Me, as it happens ...
