Hi guys, I 'm offered 3 speedmasters for sale but my budget only permits 1 or two. The types are 35.23.80 / 35.72.50 / 35.70.50 Which type would be most interesting to buy ( given the fact that they are all in a used but good condition)? I know absolutely nothing of speedmasters ( I'm not from Barcelona though for the Python fans) so any advise would be most welcome.
Choose 3572.50 or 3570.50. It is the 'original speedmaster' with moonwatch pedigree. While nice, the 3523.80 kind of boring after sometimes. I sold mine less than 6 months after I owned it. Between 3572.50 or 3570.50, I would say I'll pick 3572.50. Caliber 1863 has better aesthetic finishing. If you bored with the crystal case back, you could buy the magnetic cover and solid caseback to 'switch' it into 3570.50. (Of course you could also buy sapphire case back with spacer for 3570.50, but the cal 1861 movement looks not as nice)
I first wanted to go for the 35.23.80 ( I'm more of a seamaster fan and this one looked 'nice' as you said with it 's triple calender day date) but the pedigree of the 35.72.50 is indeed undeniable and the back is a fun extra. It 's serial number in the 48 mio . Could you also give me a rough estimate of the price range?
It doesn't but the 35.23.80 somehow reminded me more of my seamaster than the other models. I don't know why ( I'm the guy who likes to listen to 'Madness' , remember)
oops, Just looked at the thread title; should be 'which speedmaster to choose', of course. ONE STEP BEYOND!
I love a Valjoux/ETA-based caliber 7750-based movement, and few do it better than Omega. But I have moon-watch fever at the moment. Among contemporary moon watches, I would say the 3572.50 for it's back crystal and finish of the movement. The triple-date is too busy (and frankly just too much info). More to go wrong! Post your "incoming" with pictures and tell us why YOU chose what you chose!
