    Hello folks,

This is my first post here so please don't be too difficult on me as I am totally new to the (luxoury) watch scene...

Since we all are getting older and since I don't have any Highlander genes, I was planning on buying myself a nice present... I always wanted a nice watch and I believe this will be the moment that I'll chase my dream...

I always liked the looks of the Speedmaster but the problem (for me) is too much choice... After some -ok I admit, a lot of- reading and visiting an Omega dealer here in Belgium, I decided the watch would need to meet the following criteria:

    -Speedmaster model
    -automatic with date (so co-axial)
    -preferably max 44mm
    -black dial
    -steel bracelet
-watch that can easily be worn on different occasions

Combining all these criteria, the natural outcome (if I am mistaken, please correct) would be a Speedmaster '57.

The Moonwatch chronograph co-axial is a little too big for my taste (but I really like the black tacho) and if I would buy a Moonwatch, I would opt for a more classic manual version.

So the Speedmaster '57 models I like the most are the 331.10.42.51.01.001 and 331.10.42.51.01.002

I really like the 002 for it's color combination but the only thing I like less is the big arrowhand. It looks less classic and makes me think of a divers watch.

Besides the difference in looks are there any other reasons why I would opt for a 001 or 002? (maybe value wise?)
Also it's hard to find photos online of people who customize their Speedmasters '57 by using other straps. If someone has photos of '57's in combination with -for example- a Nato strap, please share!

What model should I choose? Never had such a difficult choice...
Thanks for reading and understanding my dilemma...

    Cheers from Belgium. ;)

002 for me, as well. Both are beautiful to me, but I prefer 002's color combo more.

Thanks for your input guys, really appreciate it!

The link to the thread that @alam gave indeed shows some nice strap combinations. A remark that also has been posted over there is that for a model that is available since 2013 there is indeed not so much to read about the '57 on forums. It's like everybody loves it but it seems that not a lot of people buy it or bother showing it off.

001 or 002... I guess this choice will keep me awake for some extra nights... :)

Just to make it more difficult for you:
The '57 and the moonwatch have the same dial size so even though the case of the moonwatch is a little bigger they look the same size on the wrist so that shouldn't be a decisive factor IMO.
black dial looks nice, but I think the white dial with rose gold markers makes it stand up really nice.
Here are my 2 speedies. The GSOTM is also an awesome watch. A little more expensive but totally worth it.
I just ordered the strap to convert my '57 into a 331.12.42.51.02.002.

Interesting that you should say that, as the first Speedmaster (reference CK 2915) actually used the broad arrow hands so would probably be more classic.

Silver dial on the Ti... or just silver dial with blue hands.

    One can dream.

    You mean this one??

I saw it at the OB and it´s not that appealing in person. At least not to me. The one I´m missing right now is the blue dialed moonwatch. That one looks awesome in person too. Maybe I´ll get one later. For now it seems a little redundant since I recently bought a Blue Ti PO.

All of the '57s are very nice. I like the 002 a lot. If you have an OB within driving distance make sure to try out as many as possible. I have always been fond of the blue and blue/red 57s.

The Ti has a white dial or a blue dial. @Prieto9000 has 2 watches with a silvered dial. The 57 in steel with gold hands has a silver dial. The GSotM is a tad darker but silvered. That type of dial is gorgeous in person. They have a great texture to them.

Another watch to think about if you have 7.5 wrists is the first gen 3313 PO Chrono. They wear a bit smaller then the current ones and are thinner the the 42.5 you are looking at. I'm pretty sure they are at the bottom of the deprecation curve and in the future might have the best value of all the POC's due to having the best proportions.

I haven't been able to determine if the '57 has a silver or a white dial. Most of the time it appears to be white, but under certain light is appears to be silver. The GSOTM is always grey. It varies depending on the light but there's never any doubt.

My vote goes to the 002, that I own personally! The "retro dial" and that hour hand steal my heart every time I look at my watch.
Either the 001 is beautiful; it is more "modern", but I don't like the "target dial" for the little second's hand...

Thanks for your input guys!

The longer I stare at the white dial, the more beautiful I find it... Why didn't they just make 1 or 2 '57 variations... too much choice is a stress generator! :)

A nice advantage of having a 'brownish/gold' arrow and hour markers is that it's also very nice to combine with a brown leather strap. It just adds that extra sense of detail when the strap color comes back inside the watch.

I've decided that the Speedy 57 002 will be my next Omega purchase. It looks lovely on the strap. My last was an XL 8500 PO and I need a nice chrono to complement it
