Well it is time to think about a "dress" watch. Got my GMT/World Time watches. A Zodiac Aerospace GMT, a Zodiac World Time, and a modern Orient World Timer. So many Omega models to pick from. Want something vintage, but not sure how old IE bumper. Pie Pan, Geneve, Constillation, Seamaster etc. Without selling my Soccer Timer, looking at about $500 to $750. At that price maybe plated but not solid gold. Stainless case is OK with me. Which model and what movement would be the suggestions?

I have to suggest a Constellation C-Case like this one. If you are persistent you can find one that is in top condition, that is, it is totally original and still looks new. You can't do better then a 561-564. Another reason is these are towards the new end of vintage 168.0017.jpg 17.jpg . You can find them in the price range you listed. I paid around 400 for this one and it was/is mint.

C-cases do wear a bit larger due to the surface area, and it seems you like a bit larger watch so it might be a good match. Are you set on Omega or open to other brands? Do you want a little gold mixed in, like markers and hands?

A transition 751 - quite a deal! Can't tell exactly how good the dial is from that shot though but I bet it's decent at least.

Those with the gold dials sell for $2,000-ish or more. The solid gold cased versions with the linen pattern or plain dials go for $1750 give or take a bit.

Yep, it was a good deal! Even had an Omega strap and buckle. :cautious:

One of the gold Connies with some history sold for $2k.

I do like that C case Connie.. Not really fixed on a brand, but do not want to be Omega-less if I sell the Soccer Timer. Willing to have a watch serviced if it warrents it, IE dial not a screwed pooch. I actually have an old Sandoz 25j automatic, watchmaker basically says excellent watch for the long haul, but not known here or worth much. No idea what the case is, kind of a copperish color but not plated, no marking that I can see. Open to other brands, Dad was a Longines guy. I seem to like Zodiacs, perhaps a Goldline or Glorious.

Back in the 40's, 50's and 60's they were the gold standard of watches. IM(biased & not so humble)O I'd put their caliber 29x series up against anything from that era.

Longines are starting to reach the higher levels as well. Even Zodiac's not that well regarded are starting to get some crazy prices, A decent Sea Wolf will go for over $200 and need service and parts. Problem there is that there are very few parts left, not sure about Longines, Omega's Breitling, and Rolex seem to at least have the after market parts around.

Funny a 751 transition was mentioned....as I like the cross hatch dial of this one, but the non-original crown disturbs me. No movement pic's are frustrating and assures always my lack of interest. http://iorio.com/watch/omega/jk1e241e.html

Can't go wrong with a C Connie, but since you have a fondness for Zodiacs, you may be able to find one of these.

They are not often seen, especially the Chronometre. The back case figure on the Goldline is rather interesting as well. Quite a few 'Pie Pan" styles were introduced by other makers. I will keep an eye out on the 500 series C case Connies.
