Which gold Speedy is better: black or white?

White dial. I don't like that black one at all.

Frankly, i don't understand the stealth wealth concept. If you want a gold watch, why try to hide it? It's one thing to say that you love the color of white gold, but why would a person buy a white gold watch because they were worried about what other people think?
People who don't want others knowing that $50k sitting on their wrist and don't want their watch stolen maybe.

Of course. Deterring theft means being cautious and making wise personal decisions. There's the obvious difference in attention that YG gets that WG may not.

People also sometimes say they don't want to wear Yellow or Rose gold because they don't want to flaunt their money, but then they want to buy WG because it's expensive without showing that it's expensive. It strikes me that the choice to buy gold then is because it is expensive and not because it is attractive, which is an unfortunate reason.

Sadly that is definitely a reason why many people buy things, just because its obviously expensive and they want to show off.

I personally want to go back for the Canopus Speedy just because I really loved the white dial, and it was quite a sharp "formal" watch when worn with the black alligator strap. Plus it would be one that I wouldn't feel weird wearing to the office, again cause of the stealth factor of WG.

I have a similar view to the stealthness of WG, happy I could get my TH Carrera in WG which looks better than the RG in appearance as well IMHO, here's a side by side (pics from Tagheuer):

And a wristshot;

Great call in going for the black dial. The Canopus gold watch has its charms, but the Sedna gold watch is just radiant. You’re absolutely right that all the features of an early Speedie help to make it pop vs. the Canopus model. The only thing I can find fault with is the legibility of the black on black subdials. But overall this is a watch that feels luxurious and yet still understated.

Separately, I also had a chance to try out the platinum Speedy with a black onyx dial and lunar meteorite subdials, which costs more than twice the price of the gold Sedna black dial on a strap. I was underwhelmed.

That pic of you with the white-gloved AD...it's like - "hey, where you going with that?" 😀

She had my 2998-2 as hostage, so she probably knew I wouldn’t go far. 😉

I picked up my Canopus today with the new hands fitted and I love them. I can clearly read the time no matter what angle I look at the watch from unlike before. Fat Frank is in agreement..

I'd choose the black. Gives me goosebumps looking at it. However it really stands out which could draw unwanted attention. The white is also great but doesn't give me warm and fuzzy feelings but as a plus may not stand out as much.

I had my favourite Jewellery shop do it for me, they have a repair department and cover many marks including Omega. If I ever need to send it in for warranty they will swap the hands back before sending it in. They are really a great bunch of people and have repaired many watches for me so I go out of my way to buy from them even if I dont get grey market pricing.

No yellow gold ever. On anything other than guitar and speaker cable connectors.
The white dial is nice. Still would prefer stainless steel though. I don’t get precious metals.

Thats great and they sound wonderful. Service like that is worth paying the extra over grey market.

Canopus white gold is gorgeous.
I once put black hands on the Apollo 11 35th anniversary but found that the hands not matching the silver markers drove my OCD crazy even though it was a lot more legible!
