My youngest son graduates from high school in two weeks and ships out for basic in San Diego on the fourth. I have decided to get him a G shock but am unsure as to which one I should settle on, which would you choose and why? Thanks in advance.

This 5610 is perfect. It's not a monster like some of the others...

+ 1 for the 5610. Recently bought one for beater/holiday watch duties. Just about the best bang for your buck out there

Or if you wanted to go a bit more upmarket (and expensive!), you could go for a GMW-B5000D-1ER

    The full metal G-SHOCK GMW-B5000D-1 or GMW-B5000TFG-9

And if you're feeling generous then the GMW-B5000TFC-1DR

This trio is limited edition so most likely not available anyway, and also weigh a fair amount so heavy on the wrist. Otherwise, how cool is that stainless steel one?!

Can I put my $0.02 in for something else?
I have always had a G-Shock of some sort for the last 15 years.
But I'm thinking I like this right now...

"Which brings us to the inevitable comparisons with G-Shock range. Solar power, chrono, world time, robust construction and a 200-meter water resistance are all well-known G territory. The SBEPs are pitched pretty firmly towards the upper middle of the G range, against watches like the G-9300. but well below the MR-G megabuck models. But the Seiko is a great deal less fussy in the way it operates and displays its functions. And its ruggedness has a simplicity that the Gs sometimes lack. Interestingly, the case backs of the Seikos are remarkably similar to those of cheaper G-Shocks, held on with four securing screws in the tab corners of the case."

I think the aforementioned 5610 would be the one to go for. The limited edition ones are sold out pretty much everywhere and you might get lucky with one of the retailers, but it probably won't happen within 2 weeks.

Vbrad26, I like the Seiko, and I had originally toyed around with the idea of getting him a Seiko diver, but his affinity for things of and relating to the Corps made me think of going with a watch that used to be issued to special forces and I can't afford a Sub-Mariner.

Mayankyadav, With him going into the Corps soon I figured that I would get him something rugged, reliable, and easy to read. That criterion combined with the G-Shock's history with the military made it seem like a really good choice. The Pathfinder would also be a good choice.

Pathfinder has some extra features like compass barometer , sun rise and sun set timing etc that may be handy

If it’s anything like when I was in boot camp he’s not going to be able to wear a watch. Give it to him for graduation.

Didn't know they make Casio Gshocks.

So tell me Sarge, do you have to make an actual effort or does it come naturally?

So you're just doing it again, eh? Too bad they don't teach reading comprehension on Paris Island.

I just like pointing out how idiotic you are. Congratulation on bringing the collective IQ of Omega Forums down a couple points.
