I know I'm not alone in the fact I don't care for the 1998 bracelet. I'm wondering which of the predecessor bracelets folks prefer, and how can I find one. I wear my 1680 and 1675 on various vintage bracelets ..9315/93150/78360/jubilee...so I'm cool with hollow links and lighter weight. I just want something more comfortable and adjustable/lighter weight than the 1998 paperweight. Thanks Formerly known as "SD4Kdoc"
Personal fave is the 1498/1499. Lighter construction, solid but less bulky friction clasp, taper to 16mm, but also solid end links and polished bits. 1450 is quite nice as well if you're more into the vintage 3 row look. 1479 is ok as well but known as a hair puller. To find one of the aforementioned search the bay, watchrecon, lionseek or the like. Set up email alerts. Also, doesn't hurt to do a WTB post. Good luck with the search.
I've had a 1450 since new fitted to my Reduced (around 1989-90) and it is well worn and "stretched", but still my favorite. The clasp is of course quite flimsy by today's wonderful standards! Make sure you get the quick release pin that comes with it if you go that route.
Thanks for the great comments. What do folks think of the 1171/633? I see these are still available NOS from Ofrei. Formerly known as "SD4Kdoc"
It's a good choice. Takes a lot of the weight off compared to the 1998 and the 633 links as sold seem to fit very well with a minimum of adjustment. Tom
I just got the 1171 mounted. Love it. Comfort like a jubilee. To think the dislike of the 1998 kept this beaut off my wrist . It's back in rotation! Formerly known as "sd4kdoc"
