Which box will house a 1982 Speedmaster Mark 4.5 176.0012

Just sorting last years „project“ arrivals ... fished this one as „bag of parts“ which turned out to be fully complete except the 24h hand. Last week the owner also found and offered me the original warranty booklet he found ... should arrive on Monday

but for my question ... what is the most appropriate box for this one, the usual 1501? Or one of the later ones with the artificial leather (grey or read)?

original listing

warranty booklet

And after the assembly (only to check for completness, still needs a full movement service, add missing hand, and replace crystal). Case I am not sure about, will check condition after cleaning.

I think it will depend on when it was sold, and in what country

i have seen various boxes paired with the Mk 4.5 over the years, from various sources - including notable sellers ( analogue shift) and influencers (fratello did an essay on a time capsule NOS mk 4.5 a few years ago) etc

then of course, dealers used to use whatever box was conveniently to hand or left in the store room .......

Shame it's not a Speedmaster back, but I would still take it off your hands for you, at a suitable discount.

It has the correct back - rather confusingly, these were sold and branded by Omega as Speedmaster Seamasters !!!!

Thanks for the info, as a newbie I would have immediately suspected foul play if I had seen it for sale.

Mine came with this box.

ok, have plenty of those lying around ... NOT 🙁🙁

I always thought this to be more branded like a Seamaster back in time, so a 0012 in a crater box is a stunning surprise to me ... but maybe this came also down to the negotiation skills of the customer back in time ...

Sherbie, thanks so much for this extensive collection !

mine was sold 1982 in Germany, so your last example is a perfect match. 👍👍

Mine is from Feb 1983, but alas, no box and papers

ps - i wouldnt bother even trying to track down a crater box - these sell in good condition for more than the watch itself

ps see the last sale i saw on ebay !!!

Any updates on the restoration of your watch? Service, cleaning, etc?

Hi,
unfortunately no substantial update yet. Found a parts bag including a good original 24h hand and a significantly better looking used crystal for a very reasonable price - all going well with the Used condition of the watch. But as my watchmaker is still busy with my Memomatic and my 176.001 restauration, I decided to keep it at home for now …
Best, Ralf
