    Hey OF,

Just getting my mind straight on a mid-term grail, an annual calendar in steel (with a moon phase). Which of these 3 examples is your favourite? (I realise that the glashutte original model, at full retail at the moment, runs quite a bit more than the other 2 models)

    1. JLC Master Calendar Steel

    2. Girard Perregaux 1966 Calendar Steel

    3. Glashutte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar (not sure why it's named a perpetual, if it's an annual?)

I have the JLC in rose gold. I'm very happy with it. Classic / balanced / elegant design and in house Caliber. The other two just don't cut it.

I agree on the JLC in gold, but on the version above I'd take one of the others.

Which one? It's hard to tell because these pieces really sing when seen in person.

Based on the aesthetics and history I would choose the JLC. It is a personal taste issue but to me the JLC is more elegant.

I love the link between the blue hands and the blue moon on the GO.

The Glashutte Original is priced higher because is actually a perpetual calendar. If you look at below the 12, there's a red dot, the color changes from red/yellow/black/white to indicate leap years and non leap years.

1 and 2 are not annual.
Anyway, I prefer GP for legibility.

I prefer the GP too I think. And how are they not annual calendars?

Nice! I really do like the JLC, and have tried it on in person (the steel version), but I'm just no a fan of the crescent moon date indicator... I think without that, it would be perfect for me. I like it very much on vintage 34mm triple calendars from the 50's, but something about it on this modern sized 39mm watch just bothers me... I think it would look cleaner without it. But that's just personal taste!

Arguably "classic/balanced/elegant design and in house calibre" could probably be said of all 3! :)

In annual calendar you should change the date manually only in the end of February.
I think these watches are called "full calendar".

    beautiful!

If I could have any, I would without a doubt go a Patek 5396 in white gold. I think it's the perfect patek.

I agree. Several forum members own the JLC in the current or older iterations, and it's got its fans. 39mm case, 10mm thickness (nice and slim), and quite proportionate in terms of dial design, and case design.

The GP is quite nice, but the two windows for month/day are just a bit too close, making it look crosseyed.

I'm not too fond of the GO dial. Besides, if (IF!) I could afford a QP in that price range, I'd go with a JLC QP, in black

So of your 3 choices, I feel the JLC is the most balanced dial; the crescent moon is a nod to the past, though I can understand how it bothers some people.

What about the JLC in RG with the grey meteorite dial? It's very nice in the metal. (pic from ABlogToWatch)

Excellent points! I see what you mean by the month/day being close together, but interestingly I find I actually prefer that aspect of the GP calendar! Kind of like the Patek 5396 I pictured above, but it's far more balanced on the patek dial with the proportions than the GP.

The JLC used to be 37mm.

I like the Big Date on the GO, but none of them have large enough day and month windows. That's the reason I sold my Chronoswiss. Despite it being a gorgeous watch (forgive me for saying the dial blows away every watch in this thread), it was simply illegible. Since it was roughly the same size as all of the above watches, readability will be poor on any of them.

I personally have the steel version with meteorite dial on my list and if you are on a limited budget that's probably the way to go another option is the JLC Grand reverso jaeger-lecoultre-grande-reverso-calendar-men_s-watch-q3758420.jpg

if budget is not an issue....get one of the 2 Patek !

If only I could have all of them....hhhhhh

spent some time looking at and trying on the moon phase GO and JLC at an AD a few weeks back. was dead set on getting GO, but then tried on JLC. oh my.... nice and thin, just elegant. GO wears much more casual, JLC much dressier and classier. I vote JLC.
