What happened to ulackfocus? I dont see him around and his profile page is not available. Sorry i was away for a long time.
The thread linked above is locked (hardly surprising) so I'd just like to say here that I think the mods do a great job (that's all the sucking up I'm doing). I was never entirely sure with Dennis what was humour and what ... wasn't, but it still didn't detract from the laughter most of his posts elicited. I'll genuinely miss that. On top of which, he certainly knew his area of our hobby. At the end of the day, that's what most of us are here for: sharing hard won knowledge.
In general terms I believe in the old saying "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" Sadly, towards the end of his time here, there was far too much vinegar and not nearly enough honey from the Squirrel .
How long before this thread blows up too? I miss him multiple times each week. Too many threads and too many other OF habitués that seem to need Dennis’s sharp tongue from time to time, me included. But obviously, Dennis was too controversial, as evidenced by all these ‘I miss Dennis’ threads blowing up with people still hurt by his intemperance. A rare watch that’s damaged and not repairable. Very sad. Best of luck Dennis in your travels. I hope you’ll be able to come back some day, even though I am one of those unreconstructed Speedmaster fanboys that so irritated you.
I miss him, too. I was out of the country and unaware of what happened until I got back home and back online. I was frankly surprised, and very disappointed that he decided to purposely become inappropriate to the point that the mods had to boot him. I thought he had more respect for the mods AND the members here than to do that. Must have been a really shitty week he had, and it put him over the top. When I was a n00b 4 years ago, he was the primary member of many who kindly led me along the way to learn and grow through PMs, info-threads, and such. I'm glad I got to see the positive side of his personality and humor before his frustrations sent him over the edge, but he was always courteous, friendly, funny, and helpful in PMs. Wishing him the best, although it is best he is no longer here. Thank you to @Trev for letting us know what happened..
When I was a noob he was bloody rude, sarcastic and helpful to me in that order. I put him on my mental 'Twat' list there and then. But pretty soon I came to realise that with the rough came the smooth and learned to like and even admire him. I fully understand why he had to go and feel that he did regulary overstep the line with the way he bullied noobs. That said, sometimes noobs need bullying or at least schooling. Especially the ones who post once to sell their uncles watch (which they really bought in a charity shop that morning) because rules don't apply to them as it is a one off.
