We can argue and debate until the cows come home. Regardless of how desirable these watches have become, I think you need to be blind or desperate to plunk down 10 large for a watch with a dial in this condition. And we haven't talked about all the other issues....

And this constant misuse of the "tropical" qualification. In this case "tropical" = "hit by a hurricane". Blatant greed.

Amazing how catch phrases turn into bullet points for retail sales. Limited supply, to much money and poor choices lead to speculation and buyers remorse later imo. m

That dial is very unattractive, and the hands seem very new (and incorrect) for that reference.. I personally wouldn't buy the watch unless I had a replacement dial and hands for it.. but then you'll have a put together watch.

At a $10,000+ price, I would be on the lookout for an all original watch in good condition, even in today's market.

 

As long as an item is in demand, the prices will rise, add the fact that supply is somewhat limited... prices rise even faster. The market price/value comes down to only 1 thing, a price people will buy at, and a price people will sell at. As in most markets a lot of this is just noise. There will always be sellers who ask too much....and buyers who aren't willing to pay enough. The only way to observe true price/value is to know what is actually sold, and at what price it actually sold for. I am new to vintage Speedys so have no worthy opinion on historical or future values....but like Warren Buffett recommends, I try to invest in and use products I like... and that's why I bought a Speedy!

What's the worst than can happen....if all this collapses in the next few years, at least we'll still own some nice watches

Speaking of marketing, a couple of posters have referred to this as "$10k plus." It's actually "$11k minus." Big difference.

 

So, how can such a nice bezel be on such an ugly watch (and yes, I have never called a speedy ugly before!).
