    Probably one in Belgium too.

Another one is in Zimbabwe, he uses exotic African wood.

It helps if we know where you are, then we can help, if we can't we can enjoy the end result.

When I was in Malaysia/Singapore there were heaps of little shops making furniture. Everything from baby chairs to ornate camphorwood chests.

Nothing you can source or get made locally?

I found a retired man that loved to make bowls and other stuff in wood, and he found an old piece of mahogany i his piles of wood.
He made this table stand for my Omega 8-days that used to sit in a bus or truck.

Some great tips there. I really like the table one.

I have a mate that does great wood work and also makes bowls etc. I can touch base with him and see if he'd like a commission from a "well known international clock collector". :D

    PS: we're based in Melbourne.

This one I picked up from a seller in South Africa, it´s quite heavy so I assume it is an African hard wood of one kind or another. Like the others have said find somebody locally who is proficient in carpentery.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned morning wood yet. The hardest wood of all.

Nice offer Jim. I have been to the Yulgilbar Wood Gallery a few times (South Australia), and the owner there does great work...

Red Gum burl would make a very nice clock case IMO...

Found this company in Singapore, but for some more exotic woods. Might have to import and the heavier the wood. More the cost for s/h unfortunately

They do have Wenge which is a nice wood. Used it for a knife handle and base for a coffee table

@JimInOz things have changed a little since then :)

@kpaxsg , You really need a carpenter, but you might want to check these guys out. They do mainly clocks, my dad has been going there since i was a kid.

@Bumper - do you cook your kittens over medium high heat, or just let them simmer on low? :p

    (nice avatar picture ;))

Oh no Dennis, cats must be stir fried, so a minute or 2 in a very hot wok, ginger & a splash of cooking wine to mask the gaminess. Much like cooking squirrel i imagine :D

That actually brought back some memories Jim, I remember going to chinatown maybe 40 years ago & it looks nothing like the sanitized version we have today. It was crowded, messy & choc a bloc full of strange sights and smells.

Coffin makers worked by the roadside, as did tombstone carvers, carpenters, incense makers... but the one i remember best was this lady in the back alley. She killed pythons and monitor lizards ( goannas to our antipodean friends) with nothing but a knife. She was really quick and could well have been the "snake lady" in the Jason Bourne novels. The sight of a headless 15 foot snake squirming around really held my attention...i remember my parents leaving me there to watch while they ran their errands.
