Steady there with the ban hammer mods, I'm talking about watches here...

I think it's fair to say that we've all been there. Fallen in love/lust with some little (or large) piece of wrist candy, only to discover 12 months down the line, that it's not getting worn, and that no matter how hard you try, you just can't find the love to give it.

I'm, in this position now, with a few pieces that I'm just not wearing.

When picking a watch for the day, I'll try them on, and invariably, they end up back in the box.

Is it time to sell off what I don't wear and make room for other things?

How have others coped when the love is gone?

    Singing Kumbaya optional.

Getting ready to let a couple pocket watches move on now. Just have to get used to the idea first. I know the feeling. :(

The first dozen or so flips are hard, but it gets easier once you're into triple digits. ;):p

Word! My first years as a seller, I wept almost every evening when I got to bed. Today I sell watches with the same lack of emphaty as a serial killer commiting yet another horrendous murder! :D

Or, you can motivate it with that something that don't make you feel good anymore, may likely please someone else instead

Very recently sold my 30-year old Rolex Daytona Cosmograph. I'm at an age where I have to consider what happens to my "modest" collection when I cash in. I can see someone swaggering in and offering my heirs less for the whole collection, including the Daytona, for less than I sold the Daytona for! I have enjoyed the watch immensely, and have had a lot of fun (and offers) over the decades. I'm certain the new owner of this virtually NOS watch is now wearing it, AND enjoying it! Such a shame when your heirs a/ are not AT ALL interested in your stuff, and b/ know ZILCH about it! I should live so long as to be able to divest myself of the last one on my last day on earth. I doubt that is going to work as it seems I acquire watches at about the same rate as I sell them. Fire Sale anyone? :D

Most likely for the sell are:

    Seamaster F300 day/date "cone"

    image.jpeg

    Seamaster Polaris Titane Multifunction XL

    image.jpeg

The f300 was my first vintage purchase, I wore it daily for a year... And then other things got bought.

The Titane XL, is just back from a clean/battery/seal at STS... I wore it this morning, but can't seem to get along with the way the crown sits. It's a very wide watch... And whilst I love the look of it, I don't enjoy wearing it as much as I thought I would.

I'm currently feeling the same about a couple Constellations, not sure if it will pass or it may be time to pass along.

I'm planning something big next year and for practical purposes, I might be thinning my herd of some of the lesser value pieces.

    I'm right with you, brother.
I view this as a hobby and only devote a hobbies budget in pursuit.
I have a few that I chase and drool over but my interests have changed over time.

I have one that I never wear and is too beautiful to sit in my watch box.
I'm sure that it was a good investment but...

I really don't view these as investments and even though I've never sold a watch, there will come a day.

    Photo, as requested.

It happens. My Apollo XI 35th isn't speaking to me the way I thought it would, and while I don't dislike it, I'm thinking I may have to pass it on for now to make some room.

And here's me sitting here reading this, wondering which watch to sell to pay next months rent.
    Life's a bitch.
