It was a little boring as a film, but maybe a fun experience in theatre to just see the world (+ the sounds were great).

(Then again... not sure the book was much more gripping...)

Great film, watched it twice. I think it's one of the best modern sci-fi movies. Director Villeneuve always does great work. I also love the 1984 Dune by David Lynch.

It was definitely a slow burn but I have no complaints. To be honest I went into it thinking it was a one and done so I was slightly disappointed that it was only 1 of how ever many movies it will be. I reserve my full opinion till I see it completed

I want to watch it. But I told myself I would read (the first book) before.
It has been on my list for years but always gets pushed aside by some shiny new release.

I have a problem with seeing a movie before I read the book.
But I enjoy reading the book and then seeing the movie.

Please read the book first..! IMO, the movie does a great job of transferring the feel of the books on to the screen and the casting of Paul Atreides is great.

I think it was well done and we’ll cast but I was expecting they would find a little
More fluidity. If they take 30 minutes out and make it a little bit more dynamic it would be better.

Just because it’s Dune it doesn’t need to look like a 1980’s Calvin Klein cologne add.

The film was good work, especially considering the difficulty of capturing the source material - director, cast, script, look and feel. But I now understand better that by reading Asimov's great Foundation trilogy when I was 13, I effectively diminished the interest my future self could derive over the following decades from every other counterfactual galactic-empire saga (e.g. Star Wars). That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the wham-blam Western-in space aspects of the genre, just that they do all have to stand in Isaac's shadow...

I think the movie is terrible. No plans within plans. No explanation why anything is happening. The book is hard to adapt because of the underlying politics and tension between the Guild, the Emperor, the Lansraad etc. Also the end killed it for me. Seriously, Liet Keynes getting caught and killed in the desert by Sardukar? Please.

I've just purchased the first book for a Christmas present for my GF.

In Denmark, the translation of the word "dune" is "klit", which was used as the title for the Danish translation of the book. And yes, that word has the same meaning as it has in English 🤦

I was going to make a joke about sandworms and klits but then I remembered that I'm an adult.

Good attempt at what has to be a very difficult adaptation to the screen. But can we get a Sting cameo in episode 2 please?

I forgot Patrick (Captain Picard) Stewart was in that! (Actually, it's amazing just how many top actors' careers survived it...)

Really enjoyed it, saw it twice in theatres. Casting all around was great, Chalamet was made for the role. Can't wait for the next one.

I did read the book, and love watching the David Lynch movie when I was a kid.

A mix of the above : I'll reserve my vote when the saga is finished.
For me, the plus : the 'images' which are good, and the casting in general and of Paul Atreides in particular.
But ... I didn't find back the originality of the book with this all world created, the tensions between the different factions, and also the richness of the relations of Paul with the other characters like the Doc for instance...

Having said that, I'll go and watch the next movie when it comes out.

Dune is a great story but then I have not read yet the foundation trilogy : So that's next on my list now 😀
