Interesting question, and one to which I have a couple of answers - one obvious, one not so much...

I've only got started on Instagram recently - less than 2 months - so don't have much in the way of a following yet, so these numbers will be pretty low compared to others', but some interesting questions are raised nonetheless.

My most-liked post right now is this one, which is obvious as it essentially panders to social media in every way:



However and much more interesting, right behind it is a repost of a FS post for my Enicar. It's not a great photo, nor a bad one; it's just average. What I've found though is that Instagram really seems to like Enicars....



....maybe I shouldn't sell it after all, and keep it for the Gram!

My photos are mostly average at best, but I have noticed that certain photos get more likes than others and it has little to do with the watch, the quality of the photo, or the cleverness of the caption. I think IG's algorithm for featuring your post in the "TOP POSTS" for a given hashtag is the key.

The one below was featured for a few days under the #watchoftheday tag and ended up with over 670 likes. I normally don't even get 200 likes.

Or maybe in addition to Enicars, IG likes 176.005 Seamasters, as @JimJupiter can attest to!

Ah yeah true. I haven't figured out much concerning algorithms or likes yet, I'm just having fun with it

Personally I think I have other pics on IG that have captured this one better, but this one has the most likes at this point. Perhaps the detailed description has garnered more attention?

 

Not really sure why, but this is the one for me. The most surprising thing is that at the time i had maybe 6/700 followers...

 

YepI get why that one is the revenant one right now. Very of the moment.
I also see lots of IG 'current pics; hitting the volumes of an old posted watch. Once the masses of IG followers have been added.

I tend to agree. Have have certainly seen first hand that the quality of a pic (of the same watch), has a correlation with likes and quality of pics presented. hashtags definitely helps. That said. even not applying a hashtag seems to find its way through.

 

Yep. I get why the racing dial is very much up there. But so many great watches on the site.

Oh for sure, I'll probably do some of that myself. Really good photos I took that only garnered a few likes when I only had 10 followers or so
