Not sure if this one has been examined around here...anyway, I was killing time at the boarding gate as my flight was delayed by browsing ebay and came across this listing of a 145.022-71Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network and decided to check it out against the 145.022 section in Speedmaster 101. The "No NASA Caseback" detail on the listing caught my attention and my interest was furthered after reading @Spacefruit comment that "the smooth backed execution is very rare", so I decided to look at the other details of the watch on ebay.

The first four photos are from the ebay listing, the last one courtesy of @gemini4 ;)

So, what do you say? :coffee:

I believe this EBay listing is a correct, No NASA 145.022-71. The first 4 digits of the movement number is identical to the example I displayed last year. Nothing else looks off. The caseback appears correct.

In the interest of full disclosure, my example now resides in the watch cave of Mr @Spacefruit. William needed this sub reference to complete his full 1957 - 1978 Moonwatch collection and I was happy to make the deal.

Of course, I would have been even happier to land this EBay No NASA at a reasonable price (i.e. less than William paid me for mine) but now @alam has told the world, lol, so I can probably kiss that idea goodbye. :D

I thought the proper way to read this chart was that movement SNs on a 145.022-71 ended w/the start of a -72, in other words a -71 would have a SN lower than 31xxxx. Not so!

    :(

The winning bid closed at $6,766; did anyone around here snatch this one?

well you know I was posting my series, the #thefullset on instagram and I was about to post the NoNASA the day before this finished.

Knowing that several members here might try to buy it I held off in case some IG'ers decided having the NoNASA would be fun. So I delayed it until after the auction closed.

I think it would go higher, even now as people realise how rare they are.

Next thing you know some bright spark will be lathing off the inscriptions on a cooking -71....

    Thanks for the clarification.
Actually I am a newcomer in the speedmaster world. I knew that the no-NASA caseback was shortly produced in a transition period due to some issues with the inscription wording. However its rareness and desirability has been quite a surprise to me, especially if compared to those of other references which reach similar values.
Nevertheless, I guess that for those who want to complete the set it has a high value.
For the moment I don't have such problems, I am still with my first and only speedmaster. :D

(Yes, I fear that, but hopefully this community can weed out the crooks!)

I believe I spotted eBay listing early on, before you added to thread on this forum. I have to admit that you adding the no NASA to your monthly price listing gave me more confidence of bidding so high. Thank you for the generosity and tireless effort put into Speedmaster101 site! I had originally set my limit about $1200-1500USD lower, but decided to go for it after all!

Should arrive by Friday...anxiously awaiting to have in hand to determine if I'm pleased. Will try posting some pictures asap.

As I've told a few members privately-comments, evaluations, even critiques, will be welcomed. (Of course if you think it's a gem that would make me feel better!)

Nice watch. It looks "honest".... unpolished case, nice bezel, nice patina. Congrats!

There are a few more among members here I sold a couple last year I believe (have to check records). May have another in the closets somewhere...

DHL delivered at 7:48pm...latest delivery time is 8:00pm. Told driver they had her pulling third shift tonight!

Obligatory wrist shot. Sellers photo skills surpass mine so I will add all twelve pics.

The debris in sellers pics are now gone. Only thing I could find wrong is some missing paint at center of hour and minute hands, plus a few very small corrosion spots between lugs (may be able to see in pics).

Movement looks like it may have never been touched. Cannot see any marks on screw heads. Spots on crystal pics must have been wiped clean when reassembled. Cannot see any cracks in crystal...will clean up with a light buff.

Overall I'm very pleased and feeling better about a big purchase that ventured out of my realm of knowledge and comfort.

Congrats. You got yourself a real gem there. I'm glad it found a good home rather than to a dealer looking for a quick flip.
