I have no interest at all in the auctions on this site, yet see no way to turn that feature off. Is it a bug? Why would it even be there in the first place, given that there are only a minuscule number of auctions on the site. Anyone?
It shows on my screen as a white numeral in a red background between Latest and Auction on the toolbar at the top of the page.
Are you sure it's not showing you Alerts, like when someone replies to or likes your post? You should get one after this.
It is your alerts that you get when someone likes your post, ads to a thread you have posted in or tagged you in a post. Just hit alerts and go back it should disappear then start again when one of the above three things happen.
Yes and no, but we're making progress. When I click on the number, it does show this thread most recently. But then, as you can see, it defaults to the most recent forum posts, most of which I have been active on. So, if it is supposed to serve the function that you suggest, why would it not show the eight threads to which the alerts are connected, so that I could view them and shut of the alert. And why isn't there a way to shut it off in any case? Also, bizarrely, it switches from the screen cap page to auctions every other time that I click on it. Something's not right. Thanks.
Tony, do you mean this number? As mentioned above, it's for ALERTS, not AUCTIONS. It is a notice that you have new likes or somebody has tagged you in a post. After clicking on LATEST, you go to another screen where you are on the Latest Threads. You then click on ALERTS.
It might not have anything to do with following a thread. You have "Likes" or you were tagged ( as in @Tony C. ) in a post.
Yes, Dennis, but as mentioned above, it doesn't show threads that I have any connection to other than the top one. Also, it seems to toggle from auctions to threads. Very confusing...
It follows by default when you contribute. I would actually prefer it to be opt-in than opt-out to prevent emails etc
Try clicking on LATEST, then ALERTS and see what happens. I bet the number disappears after you've read the alerts.
For example, this was the second one listed when I clicked on it recently. It's a brand new post, and has no connection to me… https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-grail-seiko-6159-7001-300m-diver.27620/
Thanks Dennis, that did clear the system. Though I remain confused as to why the user is not automatically taken to that page when cllcking on the red "alert" number square?
The default for LATEST is the latest threads. I suppose adding dedicated ALERTS tab to that bar with that red & white number next to it would make sense, although it's only one step extra once you're on the page to click ALERTS.
Because if you have 20 alerts you can go to alerts and pick which ones you want to read first. We can all stop liking your posts to help you keep the number down
I've long been a supporter of the idea of likes being redeemable for vintage watch goodies, sorta like airline miles!
