Is it me or are 16750 prices getting out of control. A few years ago, one could source a decent example in the high $5K to low $6K's which was at a discount compared to 1675s. Now, if one even comes up for sale, they're going for between $8K-$9K. What blew my mind this morning was a recent sale on another forum which sold in one day and the list was close to $10K! Even assuming some discount factor, that's quite a big jump in price. This puts the reference now at or above certain 1675's, (think mass produced MK1 & 5's.) I think these are going to continue climbing due to limited production numbers versus it's predecessor. Glad I bought mine when prices were more reasonable.
I have noticed the significant jump in prices as well. Could be a preference for the upgraded 3075 movement with the quickset date as well. Millennials are lazy *ahem*. What's strange to me is that the 16750's with the correct late production, red back bezels aren't going for more money than the ones with the blue back bezels.
Well, you did very well with your acquisition indeed. But as we grow older, the new generation looking for birth years from the 80's, that is the perfect watch to get... I prefer both, 1675 and 16750s, and the finer examples will always command the higher prices... Full sets included..
I much prefer my 16750 with matt tritium dial to 1675 as case is slightly thicker and weighs more like a 5513/1680. With the 16750 matt, you get look of vintage with practicalities of modern watch, and the fact it was a transitional model means there are less around, especially with the matt dials. I have a matt 16660 SD also, and think both 16750 and 16660 with matt dials were undervalued a year ago, and now both have gone up in value.
I think prices will continue to climb on these, as there is more room to appreciate. 1- Low production numbers 2- Quickset (most important feature for me vs. 1675) 3 - Matte dial 4 - Considered vintage 5 - Larger potential market size i.e millennial following/birth year Don't get me wrong, I still love 1675s and would never turn my back on a fine example.
I was actually thinking o selling my 1675 to get a white Daytona...or just to increase my cash flow a little. Prices have changed to much on the last few years I honestly don't know what to ask for it.
Agreed. The finer and more rare dials (specially MK3 Radials) are still climbing. However, I think MK1/5's have plateaued a bit while 16750's are going strong.
It's just the normal course of things IMO. Considering that 10 years ago you a 1675 ( except PCGs, gilts..) could be had for 2k or less (bought my Mk II for 1800) it's only in the last few years that the regular vintage GMTs (1675/16750) have started their " dizzying" upwards spiral in price. With the vintage Sub and Sea-Dweller bubble in +\- 2008 it was just a question of time until the 1675 and the 16750 to follow suit. Bizarrely the 1675/16750 matte are jockeying for position price wise. The matte 16750 lagged behind for quite a while until now. I had a 16750 that I was forced to sell 5 years ago. I since wanted another one. I posted WTBs and the offers were eye popping to say the least. All offerings were 8.5K and up in USD $ or €. That's 12-13K CAD my friends! Even the following references of the GMT have ballooned. Early GMT IIs ref 16710 in tritium for example could be had for 3k (loose watch) 4-5k (full kit) a couple of years ago. A decent loose watch will set you back 5k. I'll tell you what's odd in Rolex these days that I have noticed. The price of the ubiquitous 16160 Sub has surpassed the asking price of the 16800 reference with the matte dial version barely above. To me that's an oddity but it's just a question of time until somebody wakes up and starts hoarding matte 16800s...then... In the mean time, I'm going modern! Cheers,
Hard to tell with only 2 pictures and also the hands look to be slightly lighter than the dial not sure if they're replacement. The market for an average MK 1 1675's with 78360 bracelet (GMT Jubilee is priced lower) is around $7.5K. You can add or deduct from that based on service history, condition of case/dial/hands and of course the bezel.
To my knowledge and based on all the people that have reviewed it directly at service etc it's all original. I had it serviced last year by a Rolex authorized center in California. (I have the paperwork for it.) Definatelly expecting to sell, if i do, for above the 7.5 but thank you for the info, good place to start. I am also surprised by the jubilee bracelets going for less as my understanding is that they are more desirable for the 1675's, live and learn.
You will not have any issues in selling specially since it was recently serviced, that's a fine looking example!
This thread now has me on the bandwagon, lol! Beautiful matte dial on that watch. Wear it in good health and when you're ready to flip post it back here!
