I saw this on Craigslist. Is this a fakeroo? Some of the text: "Back in 1950s when omega built these watches ,there policy was any watch that had errors were supposed to be destroyed. Very few made into the market ,this was one. Seamaster is spelled sea not see. On back of case omega spelled it seemaster."
He is asking $3250 for it, used to be $4500. It has been there for a long time. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I think it's a franken. Might be authentic Omega parts but somebody has the SEAMASTER engraved to look authentic, but the place that did the inscription f-ed up.
He should've put something like this for the headline: [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
It has been also on ebay several times at a high price. Seller claimed the misspelling should have occured at Omega factory (no proof though!) - hence the high price expectations...
Surely more Franken than fake. Would be interesting to see a movement shot to see whether it has a real 321 inside
I was told by the Omega Museum that it's probably a typo (as for the 220 bezel). I had such a Seemaster
He has it for cheaper on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seamaster-Chronograph-Factory-misprint-error-/172297537951Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Ouch! Though, his pictures give the impression he was preparing the ad while waiting at a red light in his car.
Ok, so I bought this one. IMHO it is the best looking reference of the Seamaster 321’s. And I thought I’d take the shortcut directly there, rather than revisiting that 15 year tour I took through all of Speedmaster’s references before I ended it with a 2915... But. What. Re: Seemaster engraving a. Greg above is probably the best informed in this thread – he thinks its ok b. I vaguely recall having seen other example(s) many moons ago... So I thought it was ok and I think so even more now after a closer look. Typeface and work looks way too similar to be a later reproduction. Serial is 154996xx which is early and in correct range? To my untrained eye movement looks clean and unmolested, original regulator. Dial is only ok and hands are corroded, wrong subdial hand, and case have had a fair bit of polish, but hey.. I intend to use it regularly... ! ...that week in 1956 when the new german intern was running the engraving machine over at Omega in Biel... ...hier, Der Bodenseeeee... @speedy4ever
As a native swiss, swiss-german and german are my first and second languages. It is quite possible, that somebody did that missspell: Der See = the lake but also: Die See = the sea (used mainly in the northern part of germany, in Switzerland we use "Das Meer" = the sea)
I quite like it, apart from the misspelling and incorrect sub Minute Hand this ticks all the 2907 boxes. Quite a hefty Price thou. My KO2907 says hello .
