My dad's advice: Who sleeps with dogs, wakes up with fleas. So watch out!

Edit:
Another one: Look at the mother, take the daughter.

“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” - Oscar Wilde.

Regardless of the cost, you’ll never regret spending more time with your kids.

After finishing flight school everyone was excited and dreaming about owing a plane one day. Our instructor gave us all a bit of advice to live by..."If it floats, flies, or F&#KS, RENT IT!!"

So many...

• Be careful what you own lest it own you.

• Don't shit where you eat.

• A happy wife isn't necessarily a happy life.

• Actions are more important than words - words are a dime a dozen.

• Ignorance is not bliss, it's ignorance.

• The patina of life is the nectar of living.

• The dead have it easiest of all.

• When it comes to huge life changing plans telling others weakens your resolve - keep it inside and move forward. Keep it secret and it stays powerful.

• Being an asshole is the easiest way. Don't be an asshole.

• Building something, anything, takes baby steps -- climb the mountain methodically, slowly.

• Measure thrice, cut once.

• You cannot control anything except your emotions.

• If you don't ask you'll never know.

• Calm the fυck down.

• Smiling helps everything.

• Remember, all this - life - is supposed to be fun otherwise it's pointless.

• Clean underwear can help almost every situation.

Amazing post!
I might put the whole text on a bumper sticker or even om my wall!

It is always easy to try, but harder to follow - thanks @SC1 for this one!

From my late father, he gave me so many but this is my favorite:
"Never sit with your back to the door"
Drives my wife nuts whenever we go out, but I just can't do it.

I collect quotes and maxims. I have a whole file of wisdom. A lot of Stoic and Buddhist inspiration. I plan to build a “quote generator” API with my list but haven’t had time yet. When I get around to it I can share. Sharing the whole list here might be a bit much.

“Where there is perception, there is deception.” - The Buddha

Don’t believe everything you think.

"If only I'd spent more time at work" were the dying words of no-one, ever.

If you owe someone, especially the tax office, call them and try to make arrangements because here in Australia at least they’re the nicest, chillest, most understanding people who will give you a 3 year interest free payment plan if you ask. If they have to call you, it’s another story entirely and you get the stick. Not sure if the IRS operate like that too but I got that advice when I was young and it saved me a lot of misery at various points.

My father always said.

My high school math teacher: Listen, son, once you're able to look like an idiot and be OK with it, it opens up your potential.

You can always make more money, you cannot make more time.

Untrue. Making money is the hardest thing in life, and opportunities are rare.

Making money is easy, compared with having my wife feel I’ve done enough for her on Valentines Day…
